They have done a bunch of work on the road and it's pretty good now and mostly clean. Brakeless descent... maybe. You'd really be flying in a few spots. I think I'm too old for that.
Maybe someone comment on this... regarding the "Hotline" or "Grand Slam" route up the Flying Buttress. Supposed to start with most of the first pitch of the Nose as I understand it. I've checked this out, but never tried it. I always thought it looked a little interesting when it comes to getting from the Cat's Pajamas corner over to the Said & Done corner. How is it and do you go high or low? I'm going to try it in the next couple of months just to see. Just curious. I haven't done that sort of rotten corner looking deal that goes straight up to the first belay on Said & Done either. Have to check that out. Only supposed to be like 5.9, but not sure what the pro is like.

Just saw this popped back up...
Made it back once this year so far...but didn't check it out (we were over on Magnolia). Having a partner shortage so far (Felicia and Sooze staged a mutiny after Magnolia and say they're never hiking up there again), but hope I can find someone soon.
In Bill Cramer's latest one-sheet guide... he shows that unknown traverse section past Cat's Jammies over to Said and Done as a 5.10 ver. His version of what we always called the Grand Slam (he called it Hiccup Deluxe) goes from the Nose, over to Cat's (via 5.6 traverse), then comes out of the top of the second pitch corner crack of Cat's up and left (5.8 var) to connect at the belay to head up the Reunion finger crack. See topo below. The way I always heard it was to connect the Nose to S&D, then Reunion.
Just have to get up there to check it out...maybe sometime later this month.

Just a little 'power' spot on the approach. There is a "stepping stone" of pink granite shaped like a heart, right in the trail. Every time up we'd stop, stand on it and ask for safe passage. Same on the way down to say thanks. Sounds groovy, but it worked! Not so for other parties!!! It's a nondescript spot that holds major mojo- and significance for me. My dog's ashes were scattered there.
I love the Mountain!

Just a speed bump if someone sees that and can give firsthand info on that traverse from Cat's Jammies to S&D.
BTW: Hey J-Bro ... get yer ass out here this fall and we'll go do Slammer. Done it a few times, but it's a great route!!!

Firing up for that ride up Lemmon again this year... might be later in the year so I can run down and solo something on Rap Rock before bombing back down to Tucson. What a great ride!

looks like the mt lemon ride is pretty similar to the ride up to Mt hamilton from San Jose (4000ft, 28 miles) and they both top out at observatories.
Are you pushing a standard double crank (52/39)?
Edit - ah! a good deal more elevation gain for Mt Lemmon.

I do Lemmon with 53/39 chainrings and an 11-26 cassette. I really don't end up using the 39-26 except for maybe the last two miles, since the grade is pretty mellow almost the whole way. The total climb is around 6500 ft, I believe. You start at 2900, top out at around 8500, and have a huge drop and re-climb in the middle

Sounds like I'm running about the same as Forest.
Nearly the whole ride is actually pretty mellow. The crux for me was getting from the ski area up to the summit parking lot. That has a lot to do with the suckage of the road up there, as it's chopped up enough to make it hard to maintain any sort of rhythm (and it's steeper). Grunt factor kicks in over that last stretch.
According to the GPS data I took that day, I had 7631 feet of climbing in 28.09 miles.
