If seeing three hundred pound guys being carried off with a fork lift excites one....I suppose.

That doesn't "excite" me. Just as it wouldn't excite me to see yourself rolled out on a gurney by paramedics after a stroke or heart attack---a unwilling victim of the game of life.
At least it can be said that footballers have a choice in the matter. At least they do for now, until or unless more ninnys and lawyers can mobilize to proscribe that freedom.

Football is a brutal game , no getting around it---the wicked appeal of which declines inversely with evaporating testosterone levels.
I doubt if many football , or hockey ,fans are gorging themselves on gladiatorial blood, as you maladroitly suggested.( You may have been watching a film with Russell Crow instead of the Super Bowl ---check your listings)

Sports fans are in general mostly like many of the posters on this thread: appreciative of a good game strategically played by talented and dedicated athletes and coaches who have worked surprisingly hard to reach the highest level in their difficult, dangerous, and rigorous sport.

And you can add to that what a famous American general who helped to defeat Hitler once said:

" Americans love a winner... And will not tolerate a loser"

It's all pussy ass sh#t compared to the real games. Considering that, I do not see much reason not to enact rules in what is basically a dumb entertainment venue to reduce risk to peoples parents and children.

In the real world Denver had a great year better than all but 1 team and that ain't nothing to cry about. It was a pleasure to watch, Peyton is still one of the best to ever play the game. Seattle looks well built for years to come.. I really expect them to be a force again next year.

Looking forward to next year.

Tell me what team would not be improved by having Manning as their starter. Take any player you want from Denver and they are still in the Superbowl, except for one.

I can only think of three teams that might not take him because they are built differently or have solid QBs already. But I wouldn't bet the farm on them not taking Peyton either. Except for the patriots.

He is clearly one of the two best QBs playing today and those two are easily among the 5 best that have ever played.

Manning is old. Maybe one to two more years at best. So at the least, I can think of 6.

Seattle
San Francisco
Green Bay
Indianapolis
New Orleans
New England

The first four have good young QBs. New Orleans and New England have good older QBs. Arguably you could add Philip Rivers, Alex Smith, Cam Newton and Peyton's brother to the list.

My list of greatest QBs

1. Steve Young
2. Joe Montana
3. Tom Brady
4. Peyton Manning
5. Dan Marino
6. John Elway

The first three distinguish themselves most because under pressure they got better. Rare trait. Interestingly enough Peyton's little brother is like that. Better under pressure.

Greatest Quarterback

Kenny Stabler

Drunk all night womanizing and kickin ass next morning on the field.

Madden was freakin out and and Stabler nonchalantly says "Don't worry coach we'll get lots of touch downs".

Those crazy ass raiders from back in the 60's were the bomb ......

Stabler was mostly a 1970's QB for the Raiders... (70-79)

Love the stories of his past team mates who said he reeked of booze in the huddle on game day :-)

Wow, krahmes. I wish I had a dead crow. They make great scarecrows. I'm not joking. Hang one on a fence, and the whole rest of the flock will stay the F away.

mad, I don't believe that it's the NFC being that much better than the AFC.

I'm sure this was pointed out many times during the game but i'll restate it anyway. something like 27 of the players on the 'Hawks were not drafted. Their franchise QB was taken in the 3rd round and makes $800K or so. Compare that to Manning who makes $21.5M. That's a lot of money to spend.

There was also a poll of the players in the NFL and something like 27% of them said they'd prefer to play for PC. Avril took less money on a shorter contract to go win a superbowl. In a sense the ring on his finger cost him $10M or more.

PC and JS have done a brilliant job of managing the salary cap. On top of that they know talent. I believe that that because of the way PC recruited at USC (read: he recruited everyone) he knew the players in the drafts better than anyone.

When it comes to the draft they go against convention. They traded away their #1 pick for Harvin. With their #2 pick they took a RB named Christine Michael. Yet they have Marshawn and Turbin. I could go on but the point is they are building a team in a way that once some of the guys want too much money they have the next guy already on the squad. I wouldn't be surprised if next year is Marshawn's last on the squad (Clemens, Miller, Rice are probably gone or re-structuring).

Sherman, Wilson, and Thomas III will need to be paid. They will extend Thomas III in the offseason. Wilson can't talk contract until after 2014 and I think he'll will give a huge home town discount. Sherman will probably play out his deal and worse case scenario get slapped with the franchise tag. Kam is locked up until 2018.

Other NFL teams see what Seattle is doing and will copy. But when you have a contract like Mannings on the roster it's a lot tougher.

So it's not that the NFC is better than the AFC. It's just that Seattle is way better at everything than any other team in the league.
