Here's our new pup Birkie, a catahoula hound, rescued from the pound. Seems to be taking to climbing nicely. Did a class 4 move and best of all he completely matches the Bishop tuff. We're so proud of the little guy. He was so sick but is fast recovering.

Give your guys an extra hug. My little brother's adorably ugly little monster was killed a few days ago by a bus in NYC. Very sad.

As for Catajulas, I had to look them up.
Apparently they crossed the Bering strait with the first Native Americans
and then were bred with Spanish and French dogs.

Yours is one of the best looking ones that I saw and
they sound perfect for a climbing couple as they need lots of exercise.

Got home after work last night, said hello to rest of the dogs and took Betty out for one last walk.
It was drizzling nicely, and getting dark, which didn't bother her in the least and seemed a fitting reflection of the mood. Unencumbered by the exuberence of the youngsters, we were free to meander at a pace that she preferred, following a path dictated only by her hound nose and seeing things I could not. She'd been increasingly painful the last few weeks, but got into a nice rhythm and looked like she was even enjoying herself rather that just going through the motions for me or for that sense of responsibility that seems bred into dogs.
Pitch dark, we made our way back home, damp and pleasantly tired and bittersweet. We all said goodbye, and I helped her slide out of this worldly discomfort into whatever was waiting for her after, a privilege of my profession.
I missed her a bit today, a lot when I got home and counted four heads, not five.

I have an 18 year old dog getting near that time and four others at home as well.Unfortunately mine will have to depart this life in a vet's office. Betty was lucky that she could leave peacefully surrounded by those she loved. Still, it never gets any easier for those left behind.

Thanks for sharing.

Short version: that's a cattle dog. Some yards down the road is an overturned 18-wheeler that was carrying 35 head of cattle. Crews are working with heavy equipment to tear apart what's left of the truck and free whatever cows can be saved. The cows might stampede, and to corral them a couple of wranglers are brought in, with their dogs. This dog is on station, watching the truck, but under cover as told so that he's safe if they stampede.

Slightly longer version: I was riding in the Ranger he's hiding under.

1 dead, 6 injured, 4 walked away. My friend and I were two of the lucky ones.

Jeez, this just happened, Chiloe?
Thoughts to those not so fortunate, but glad you walked and weren't carried.
