"Oh, you talk big and criticize any and everything relating to God and Jesus but the truth of the matter is something is missing in your life and you are searching for it. "
This statement alone is so far beyond pathetic, simple minded, closed minded, small, dumb founding, and oh, did I mention pathetic?
I'm very glad you have found something that you hold near and dear to your heart. Why the f*#k am I missing something in my life and searching for it because I don't agree with you?
Oh, did I mention pathetic? Naw. This is a truly tolerant and respectable thought process.........

Hi John,
First, I want to congratulate you on getting better from whatever ailment it was - I'm glad that you found something that worked. And no one can prove that it wasn't your religion that did it. Or that it was. Either way, as you say, it bore fruit, and one must believe the evidence before them. And I very much respect the thoughts you've laid before us - they're insightful, even if I don't believe the same. And no one can doubt that you're a good person.
I do have a few thoughts, though:
Genesis is still clearly fiction.
How can you pick and choose which parts of the Bible to take literally and which not to?
Even so - with my Western mind and all - consider Eden a metaphor. Eating of the Tree of Knowledge then must also be a metaphor for learning, and that is why they were evicted.
Faith battles Knowledge.
Faith is belief without knowledge. That's the definition.
As far as service goes, were I to set up a system whereby others serve me, I would tell them that it serves THEM to serve me, too. We are not all one. I'm me. You're you. Two different things.
Those statements use logic - really just observations of reality - and they define two different objects that are unconnected, as well as implying the ability to identify, and to discriminate between two different objects - in the effort to determine the proveable reality.
It's okay to do things for others - I'm not knocking service, if that's what makes you happy. But call it what it is, and say that it makes you happy to do things for others.
In the meantime, I have so many questions!
What are spiritual laws? Can you prove them to me, like I can prove gravity and plumbing and other scientific laws to you?
How did Jesus show that life after death is possible? How do we know that the men describing seeing him on Easter morning aren't speaking metaphorically - as metaphorically as you tell me to view the book of Genesis? Then he becomes at best a fond memory. And thousands of years later we're worshipping the memory of what was admittedly a bad-ass teacher named Jesus - who's mom in all honesty most likely happened to get impregnated by someone other than her husband. How do we know that the Immaculate Conception actually was? Who is the source of knowledge about that?
How does one become Love embodied? To me, love is a concept that describes the feeling I feel for someone that has shown the sum total of values that I most admire and respect.
CS Lewis and those others are fiction writers. Don't get me wrong - I really enjoy science fiction. I just don't like voting my government and armed forces based on a science fictional story. I'd have a hard time basing my religious beliefs on Steven King's writing, yet that's what seems to be that some here are doing, using Lewis.
L - what other source describes the Christian God in a way that doesn't include Hell? I must admit, my only sources on Christianity are the Bible and books written about the Bible and people who preached from The Bible.
I still just don't understand a lot of what we're supposed to take a face value, and the evidence looks pretty solid the other way.

Hey Locker,
Reread my post to you. The first thing I said to you was that everyone including you and I have to take care of ourselves first. The reason is because we can not give what we do not have. If I have no peace, then how can I offer it to others? If I have no food, then how can I feed others? So the point is to take care or yourself first, then offer part of your bounty to others. This isn't just about material things. It is about everything in this existence. From food to joy. You already follow this teaching. You do it with your happiness with climbing. You share that here all of the time and I appreciate that. You have also made peace with parts of life and you take that peace and offer it to others. This is very powerful and is how peace grows. But you are correct. First you must take care of yourself.
It is just that once we have, then we need to learn to share and this is how I want my government to be, my friends to be and everyone on this planet. It is when we fear not having that we lose that joy of living. I went through so much fear of not having that I ended up creating the not having as I stopped giving out I started receiving less and less from the universe.
This is a spiritual Law. The Bible describes it this way, but there are other ways. The law goes like this. To he who has, more will be given, to he who has not, even that which he has will be taken away. This is a very deep teaching. It is difficult to convey the meaning in a few words but I will give it a try. The universe is an energy exchange environment. To get, we have to give. This creates the exchange. If we hoard, then the universe can not give to us and eventually what we have will run out. So to get more, you must give. I want more Love, so I must give it. There is much more to this and I am willing to answer as I can, but first I have to take care of myself. haha small joke.
I think you are great Locker and I am very glad that you are taking care of yourself. I have the feeling that you gave away too much of yourself to something that did not give back and so you are depleted. keep on taking care of yourself. You are worth it. But of course. Everyone is. Haha....
Aaron.. I would Love to answer all of your questions but it would require books and books. I have studied many many teachings on spirituality and I still feel ignorant. The best thing I can do for you is to guide you to one of the more profound books that I have read which can answer at least some of your questions. It is "The Christ is Born in You" by Kim Michaels. It is a start. There is also a web page by Kim.
http://www.askrealjesus.com
It is fairly intense stuff, but if you really want to know, then it is a good place to start. On the first page is a group of descriptions of how different people think of themselves. Read through and decide which description best fits you and then follow the links. The list is on the left as you scroll down on the first page. You might be suprised at the answers you find. I know I was.
I appreciate your support and your friendly words. If you choose one question that really speaks to you then I will try and answer you. Perhaps we can start there.

Hey Locker,
I have to laugh because I definitely don't think of you as selfish. I see your good heart. I guess we are just having a miscommunication. No worries from me and I am sorry if I sounded like I was bagging on you.
Peace

one time my daughter and I were driving into Reno from the 'south side.' A,s we got on the freeway (late for something, I'm sure) I was annoyed to see two NHP crusiers hogging the lanes, with whirling lights and going, maybe 5 mph. When I got up to them, I saw they were escorting two families of ducks, waddling down the thouroughfare. They ( the cops) were laughing at each other and those of us wo got to pass them when the third lane opened up.
And I thought Those Guys got the seal of approval! Nice work, Jody! Though,we'll always have stuff to argue about.

"Mr. Fonda...touch a nerve did I? In fact you weren't even on my mind in the OP. Wasn't even addressing you. I had no idea what you believe. I was addressing the relentless anti-God rhetoric on this site by a few posters. Yes, my post was meant to be blunt and thought-provoking. You could have just addressed the errors in my statement and why it might not be true. Instead, you then go on this rant closing with, "Club any baby seals lately?". No, but I did save one's life a few weeks ago"
Point taken. Maybe not so much a nerve, but I do get tired of how people are potentialy missing something from their lives because they don't believe the way others do. I can understand your stance though. My appologies for being harsh. You have always struck me as being a pretty up front and sharp individual.
As far as clubbing baby seals goes, it was an off hand remark that probably didn't fit the moment. On the other hand, I love the picture.
THIS IS ALL IN JEST (just to clarify): So tell me, what exactly did the seal do to warrant LEO intervention? Was it harrasing beach goers? Did it try to mount a parked car??? Did you need a Tazer??? Is there a plea bargin on the table???
Out with it man, we want the truth!

I'll bet that seal was pissed. I mean come on now, the MAN was harrassing him. Violating his rights to come and go as he pleases. I'd hiss at you too.
Cool story, nice job on the rescue. Now if you could only take some of the more charming characters you deal with and herd them into the ocean things might just improve.

"The reason people don't believe in Christianity, Jody, is that Christians don't act like they talk."
You make blanket statements, condemning a whole group of people, while accusing others, like me, of not having an open
mind.
Jody, talk about the pot calling the kettle black.
Jody, it's obovious you believe that the only true faith is christianity. you stated that all are other religions are mut religions. glad to see you are so open minded

Weschrist--Maybe in your family...
Thanks you guys! That dialogue just gave me a whole new perspective of me having to "whip" my dad's arse as he lay dying of cancer, too.
It's actually making me chuckle--and that's never happened with that memory before!
