Started dumping at dusk here at Kirkwood. High winds kept the lifts shut down today. Trees down earlier, and right now? 8" Woot!
But man is my euphoria over the snow been tempered big time by news of the fires in Mono & Inyo. So upsetting! I hope it starts dumping. The temps really came down today, about 15 lower than expected.
Bummer about Doug's house, glad no one was hurt.
not sure I'll sleep much tonight. Praying for folks to be safe from the fires.

Well just moderate rainfall here in the Valley, Yosemite that is. Moderate gusts of wind here and there. I really don't understand all the hype and hysteria . This is a moderate rain / snow storm for a normal Sierra Winter. Why is everyone so crazed??? Rain snow wind: aka WINTER.

the storm wasn't predicted to hit super heavy in the Sierra. More wind then rain. But far northern California was predicted to receive as much as 20 inches in some areas. Thats pretty serious for a weeks worth of rain and thats where the hype came in.
A slightly larger shift then has been seen so far and it could have dumped quite a bit in the Sierra. Yosemite was not predicted to get much. It needs to shift just a bit further south to really hit Yosemite.
Some of this thread is about people hoping for a nice hit of winter.
…..
I hope everyone is safe from the fire.

the red stuff on the right sure didn't look good through binos, but it is hard to know for sure what we were looking at

On radar it looks like the front has been stalled about 15 miles from the fire. What a bummer..

what a crazy storm. A couple of very localized areas got close to 6 inches of rain in the last 24 hours, but most saw a whole lot less.

My thoughts are with those who lost their homes. So sad, that area will never be the same.

40 f here and largely clear skies. Probably got less than three quarters of an inch of precip. My condolences to all who suffered losses in the fires down south. How did they start anyway?

I was prepared for power outages up in my canyon but they never came. Been wintering here for five years now and have yet to see this level of wind damages. Numerous large cottonwoods dismembered, pinon pines in the road, small branches littering my yard everywhere, a neighbor with about 3 acres fenced in that pretty white vinyl posts and simulated rail had at least a quarter of it down and shredded and his horses loose with the wild ones.Had to have been gusts over 100 mph.

Thoughts for those affected by the fire. Mind boggling to see this in February.
Hoping for more drought relief!

Just checked out the real estate listings and the linked photos of
the homes in Swall. Very nice.
Then sort of adjusted my mindset of how all those pretty landscaping trees and bushes acted as kindling in this wind driven wild fire.
Yes, I'm really sorry for their loss, but they were asking for it
not building huge defensible spaces around their homes
in a 100mph wind prone area.
