I drove home from LA early this morning to be here for the forecasted storm cycle over the coming days. I've seen many varied reports on exactly what this storm cycle may mean for our parched state....we can only hope that we get copious amounts of snow.

To be sure, it appears to be a very warm storm, so snow levels will likely be quite high. The amounts of forecasted rain could be devastating for many areas within the forecast.

Kindly post up your experiences here as the storm progresses.

Current conditions here on the east side.....increasing gusty winds, and quite warm....presently 56F.

what amounts are you seeing predicted Dean.

from Tahoe Daily snow report the graph he shows doesn't make it look like it will be that much.

I don't know where he gets his graphs from.

In most of Cali the NWS is not predicting a large noteworthy storm.
In Tahoe, a medium storm with snow level of 7500.
More precip further north like Shasta, but snow level of 7000.
Snow level very high even in Oregon.

Looks like the brunt of the storm stream will mostly pass cali other than the far north. We are getting the pineapple growing temps currently but missed any appreciable precip with the forward bands that have already passed.

On a hopeful note; The Chief hasn't jinxed the precip with overly optimistic forecasts, yet.

+10, with the first of our four local ski hills closing down...Seymours next, Cypress will probably stay open to screw the pass holders and Grouse is mainly about caged grizzly bears and logger shows so they will stay open.

Low to mid 60s here in Salt Lake today and tomorrow. 20 degrees warmer than normal. And we're not getting any precip out of this.
I don't think any of the resorts here is in danger of closing, but the conditions are about as crummy as I have ever seen them this time of year.

Well Jan, it started off as snow, here in Whistler

But, by the end of the day, things were looking quite soggy.
Thisjustin after 3 hours playing in west coast mashed potatoes on blackcomb.

Precipitation was constant, and the trend seems to be more precip, likely rain. It's pissing cats and dogs outside now..

Jet stream is headed south earlier now, so California might get some Saturday night.

Mt. Hood Meadows just closed for the day - no night skiing. Lift prices were just slashed by 50% for Friday. I am supposed to teach my two multi-week groups on Saturday. They were awesome last week - great college groups and starting on a bluebird day. The forecast is that we will be in the mid 30's, possibly a couple inches of snow, and winds gusting to 65 MPH on our lift served terrain. A decision will be made to continue or postpone our programs early Saturday, probably long after I leave the house and begin the 100 mile drive to the hill.

Will bring my snorkel and heaviest goretex for alternative activities. The snowpack is very gruesome.

It's been raining steadily but not very hard for a couple of days now in Seattle.
We had a brief sucker hole this morning. I wish I had taken advantage of it at least to get some bird photos in actual *!SUNLIGHT!*, but I had to work. I It's raining moderately hard again now, and they say it will be intermittently hard until Tuesday. Still biking to work, though, and I sleep well with the sound of rain on our deck umbrella outside our bedroom window. My wife still claims to love the rain.

Jaybro; What is that beautiful big chimney you posted above and in the "climbed today" thread. How difficult is it, in whatever you choose to define?

It worked!

Cleaned out my garage, piled all my stuff in the yard, now seeing precip here in the central valley.

Thanks to those of you who joined my call to put all of your worldly possessions outside, or at least to wash your car.
