It's this sort of petty discourse that prompted me to destroy the original thread.
This should be a time of mourning for Americans lost due to the ignorance and hate of a very disturbed individual.
There are other topics to be discussed that radiate from this incident of course, but perhaps now should be a time for solidarity rather than division.
After all, it's the division that's f*#king up our nation, and too many are playing right into it. On both sides.
Race creed or color, we're all Americans and we should stand up for each other and rally against hate.

Trying to explain what a disturbed person did in rational terms is futile once the person is dead.
Who knows what demons did or did not speak to that murderer. You couldn't possibly begin to unravel a 40 year old man's twisted motivations from a 2 page news article. Spend a few years with him in therapy and you might get 50% of the truth if he's honest and not truly insane.
But it is interesting how within minutes sane people formulate all kinds of 'explainations'. He's a "Gun Nut" or a "Redneck". Must be because he's 'ex-military' and hates turbin-wearing people. And then we turn on each other for other absurd pre-conceived notions. And see how fast it happens.
We don't know this guy. We'll probably never know now. Bad things happen every day all over the world. Accept that and take proper precautions.

Cragman, untwist your plaid pj's. Aside from the usual gun-related back & forth, there's relatively few ad hominems going on here (aside from Ron's inexplicable self-characterization).
What do you think about the most recent compilation of suggestions of gun control, Cragman?

This circlejerk of name-calling and putdowns is a microcosm of why things like this latest massacre happen!
Are you saying banter between Jody and Apogee caused parents on the other side of the country to take up crack cocaine, abuse their child and raise him to be fearful of fellow humans and develop into a sociopath?
Ron Anderson forced those parents to forget to hug their kid? We let him have easy access to semi-automatic weapons?

as a Concealed Carry gun owner, I don't see any problems with the above suggestions

This is just the type of language and distortions the shooter subscribed to even if your and 'fears' (whomever he is) words are less explicit.
The economics aren't failing, republican finance / tax policies and wars simply drove it into the dirt and it will take a bit to recover. Government isn't 'failing', it's simply underfunded at the moment for the same reason. The "country getting CROWDED" and the use of the word "diversity" in 'fears' posts are basically racist and xenophobic code words.
The three taken together in one form or another are EXACTLY the hysteria-based Hamilton-Rove social manipulations of white males that have been so successful over the past thirty years. In most cases, like a lot of posts here, they result in a lot of unexamined re-mouthing, but there are always folks riding on the edge of the underlying, driving hate in the message that will act on it and these incidents are part of the very real cost of such speech.

If the tattoo reports are true ( the Southern Poverty Law Center is one of those sources that definitely needs double-checking ), then dude is a felon, and is already prohibited from possessing firearms.
