....and there's NO dedicated ST thread? WTF?

It's 1830 PST...the shooting took place this morning (PST time)....and the most attention this event has garnered here is a few posts on the 'Gun Sandbox' thread? WTF?

Are events like this now so commonplace that they just slide by like a traffic ticket? Hell, even Robert Goulet's passing got more attention here.

We should be ashamed. And angry. Pissed off enough to finally do something about these random shootings that are becoming far too common.

Yeah, you guys are right. Events like this are so commonplace these days. Why waste our time and attention on such things?

Pathetic, really.

Actually, Jody, I'm more interested in what you would suggest should be done.

Are you gonna fall in line with the rest of the gun-nutz who write this off as 'the price of freedom', and 'if everyone had a CCW it wouldn't have happened'?

Or do you have a more realistic, rational suggestion?

How would a law to prevent this be written, Apogee?

What do you suggest?

Remember, the politician who forwards it needs to be elected / re-elected.

If this shooting had occurred in a Baptist church, betcha there'd be a helluva lot more ranting here...

My comment was that there already is a thread dedicated to this. It was started minutes after the shooting was reported. I am not concerned you started another ST thread.

So whatcha gonna do? Feed the beast? There is no solution to nut jobs. It does seem like they do like the attention though, however fleeting.

We just need to implement reasonable measures, like checkpoints on highway entrances, with searches, and tracking vehicles so that any car that passed a checkpoint on side streets would be stopped. The technology exists to continuously monitor people's positions and who they associate with - we just need to get on the ball and start using it.

And there's no reason, with the internet, that people can't say where they are headed and why before they set out. And if someone does go somewhere without a perfectly reasonable and convenient pre-authorization we'll know to go after them.

It will take a while to work it all out, but if we start aggressively pursuing every single one of these options, we'll be able to stop most of these bad guys, and we'll all be a little bit safer.

Ha! Pure gold, Jerry!

I'm pretty sure more people died of cancer in the time I took to type this than died from gunshots this whole day in the USA including this tragedy.

This stuff makes news.. but it's no more a tragedy than cancer.

Perspective.

I suppose there are ways to reduce this type of tragedy. I'm not sure the cost benefit ratio would justify doing them if we take into consideration that there are waaaay more serious issues and priorities to address as a nation.

More people have been murdered just this year in San Bernardino than at the Sikh Temple and Aurora Colorado ALL PUT TOGETHER ( and it's only August ), but I don't see President Obama addressing that.

He's into Group Politics. The Group is everything. If you're murdered individually, Obama doesn't give a sh#t.

How do you change a societies obsession with violence?

Cartoons are more violent
Movies have more graphic violence
Even professional fighting is more violent

More and more people like violence.

How do you change that?

I don't know

Funny how most of the 'it's not gonna change' attitude comes from the usual gun-nutz.
