Sully, here's the deal;
1. My wife doesn't have fun. Partially my fault because I get caught up in the buddy-fest and forget about her. As a result, she's left alone with my son. Again, my fault. I get excited when I see everybody.
2. I hate picking up trash 'officially'. I do it every time I climb in the valley, and anywhere I climb. I feel guilty taking up free space and not picking up trash.
3. My wife deosn't feel like she has anywhere to entertain John, my son. I just told her the river-beach isn't far from Yellow Pines, which she didn't know of, because I was chatting and ignoring them.
4. I f*#ked up last time I took her and John. Now she's jaundiced.
If I can get a consensus that agrees to me feeding 20 people/night over 2 dinners (nights), without doing 'official' pickup duty, I may show. Whether the rest of the family shows remains to be seen.
My wife doesn't really need help. She just needs to have access to sh#t for my son to do.
Again, this is my responsibility, but when I go climbing during the day I need to point out some sh#t she can do with John, while I'm gone.
Family life is grand, eh???

I don't speak for anyone but myself, but IMHO, the various ancillary jobs at the FaceLift are just as important as the actual garbage clean-up. All the stuff that needs be done to organize and coordinate several thousand volunteer-days, safely, plus to provide facilities and entertainment. As far as I'm concerned, things like managing Yellow Pines and other camping for the FaceLifters, helping with all the preparations before the FaceLift and each morning, and seeing that we have a clean, organized place ready for evening events, are all important. Likewise things like sushi fests, meat fests, and so on. They help build a sense of community and purpose, and perhaps attract people to the event.
The last few years at the FaceLift I've mostly helped with exactly those things, and rarely got to do the glamorous stuff like garbage pickup. (Call me Mister Mop...) But it's just as important - as they say, an army marches on its stomach.
So if people like Doug, Jeff and Steve mostly just do things like provide evening community events, it's just fine with me. Lots of fun, all in the spirit. And if as a result they don't get out much during the day to litter pick, so what? It all comes out in the wash. I worry that people take too much on themselves at times, with such events, and don't have needed human or financial support, but that's another matter.
It does sound like bluering and FatTrad could do with some help before, during and after the BBQ - if there is one, of course. It's a big effort. Likewise sushi-boy always needs help, e.g. with washing up and chopping.
I suspect that the Valley offers a fair amount of possibilities for energetic two year olds and their parents - maybe those who live there can make suggestions? Ken, EKat, Karl, John M, etc? Also, I wonder if some sort of informal group daycare could be organized, for those interested? If families know that they'll have camping, and something for the small ones to do during the day, that may help a lot.

bluey, I love your wife and son. Stellar people plus your son is the next gen and getting him in at age two would be an incredible opportunity for his young life. (Imagine him in 10-15 years sharing the photos (and history) with his friends.
So, does your wife .... please remind me of her first name, wife doesn't "suit"..... like to bike ride? The beach is steps away and beautiful with little pools a two year old can spend hours playing in.
Perhaps this will be the catalyst to get other couples with young children in on FaceLift. We could develope a toddler FaceLift Program. There are so many possibilites......
Those out there with youngun's give us some feed back.
Edit: I remember 3 (?) years ago we had some young children and Jilli, Gus, myself and Andy(?) created an early campfire for them. We told stories and sang some wonderful childrens songs. Let's make it happen. :D

I'll actually do better helping with cooking/camp management than with the physical labor...I can still do backbreaking stuff but not for very long or much of it.

My wife (Stacy), just wants places to entertain the boy and keep him busy. A 'kidFest' group isn't a bad idea. As I said before, she didn't realize how close we were to the river. My fault. I went climbing and forgot to tell her.
I have no problem doing BBQ duty for 2 days and feeding 20 people/night for 2 days for free. It's my pleasure. I think at the last TacoFest word got out to the dirtbags and we ended up feeding over 50!
Anyway, I'm trying to get the 'ole Lady to bring John, but it's her decision. She's the one that gets 'stuck' at camp entertaining him while I climb or cook. I know there're worse places to get pinned down, but think in the mind of a mother amongst people she doesn't know.
I know you guys well. She doesn't....

We should be able to do something about that, anyway.

Really? Everyone knows that? It's a "given", huh?
I know Matt Moore. You may not agree with his political views, but he is as decent of a man as I have ever met.
Bluering, What did you mean by your comment? That's a very personally insulting thing to say.
I presume you have some proof that Matthew is some kind of child molester?

Nothing teasing about making a statement that personal and insulting about any
forum member, even if they no longer post here. No reason for it. Not "funny", especially that it involves a child molestation insinuation.
edit: what is the "joke"? what is so funny about it?

Come on...It's the Facelift thread... let's get back to discussing .. Volunteering, camping, food and fun......
besides.
making jokes- about possible child harming....is not cool. ..
.It has a way of planting seeds of doubt in someones mind.
Edit: Hey Greg..see you at Yellow Pines... if you catch a bad cold again...I'll have cough drops, aspirin and sleep aids ..
will also have- band aids and glow-sticks for the kiddies...
second edit:..of course you can..(-;

IIRC, Matt has a couple of teenagers, so probably knows a bit about child care. Although he may not be an ideal choice for looking after mini-bluering, I'm sure he'd do just fine. As Nita says, lets try to stay on topic.
