Who cares if your a climber! You are an idiot to believe most of the crap that you apparently do, if that descriptor is unflattering, try lunatic.
Teacher? If any of your kids parents knew you were this out of it, you would be fired tomorrow.
Consider this, if you have to keep stuff like this secret from those around you, that's not a positive thing.
Rational/Irrational
Hey, I'm just sayin you should consider the possibillity that you need some real help.....

There seems to be a serious background topic going on in a number of these threads, regarding the meanings of words like insane, idiot, nutcase and related pejorative terms.
It seems to me that the meaning being assumed for these terms has to do with someone who is thinking outside of established norms for belief systems.
This would apply to anyone who is sufficiently aware to notice things that are not ordinarily noticed, or seeking out understanding or endeavors beyond that of the general public.
I'd like to point out that back in the 50s and 60s that would clearly apply to all of the few of us who were pursuing challenging rock climbing. (Apparently rock climbing has now become enough of an established norm that it has taken on some of the flavors of respectability.)
I would like to propose that insanity actually better applies to persons with an ongoing continuous drive to harm, defame or destroy. Those are the real nut cases.
Oddly enough such people seem to be drawn to especially attack those seeking and exploring understanding and endeavors beyond that of the general public.

Dr. Kaku is exceedingly careful in his choice of words and phrasing and never comes out and explicitly says he believes we have been visited by alien civilizations or probes.

riley, klimmer is not attacking or defaming you; but he is willing to look at material that seems to threaten you. i agree that it is awkward how he tries to fit everything including wild and unusual ideas into his religious framework. so this may act as a double whammy against whatever belief system you may hold to be true. however it is not crazy either to subscribe to a religious belief system, or to go exploring into unusual areas of interest, as you say. you don't have to agree to any of his views; but it still doesn't make him crazy just because he is willing to explore information that you find disagreeable. i can understand if he gives you indigestion, but you also don't have to try to follow his postings any more than you have to go eat at an international restaurant that you don't favor. i don't necessarily subscribe to many of his views, either. but i do find them interesting and don't see a need to attack him about them.

Karl - are you serious? people are threatened by klimmer?
This is a real problem with his country!
Klimmer is without a doubt a bat sh#t crazy religous dude incapable of rational conclusions.. I don't read any of his links or sillyness - it is akin to having to listen to a childs logical arguements when they are 5 years old,
You say you don't read it but then make judgements about it. How do you know!?
Of course people are threatened. Let's say we're sitting in the bar in Russia in the Stalin Era and somebody comes in and says there used to be this Lenin guy who was a mover and shaker but that the dictator erased his picture from historical events and denied he was a player.... People would be threatened! They undoubtedly denied it! and yet historians have zero doubt that this happened!
The Rape of Nanjing, operation Northwoods, the Gulf of Tonkin incident, giving syphilis to people in experiments. These are all things that have been proven and documented and yet if you claimed them before they became common knowledge, you'd be a nutcase. The Christains got blamed for Rome burning and I'm sure the citizens would have laughed to hear somebody else was culpable!
So we best all be critical thinkers in both directions. We don't have the truth.
The question I'd like the detractors to answer is this: which historical cover-ups and conspiracies do you know about and admit were real? If commonly accepted evidence for those event were denied by the powers that be, would you still believe they were real?
There is a reason holocaust denial is a crime in Germany and some european countries. They hate to admit it. They are threatened by it. They would love to mock those who suggest their country perpetrated a holocaust. Think about that.
See, that's the thing. We find out the truth after the ones who have something to lose are out of power.
Peace
Karl

At least Klimmer doesn't think the moon landings were faked, though, I suspect this must be the source of some festering internal conflict on the did-we or didn't-we front.

My comments here have been more in the line:"I may not agree with all your views but I defend your right to have them," paraphreased from Voltaire.
I don't automatically believe everything I hear or see on the news, since the Network Media also have "agendas." It's hitorically true that the "news" has often lied in the past, just to "get a better story."
This whole thing has devolved into a "bash Klimmer thread."
