Blue, you caught me using the eight week old pic, good eye and memory!

Yes, I have to get off my butt and transfer the recent pictures from the camera to the computer.

Take a bunch of pictures when he's a pup.

Put the good ones on Photobucket, Flickr, or somewhere. That way, you'll still have them, even if all your electronics fry.

Yeah, Jimmy, I saw that one too. There is a better pic of the dog standing up trying to reach her.

Sad stuff, man....

This guy just came home with us from the Joshua tree rescue. He was found wandering the desert with out tags or chips. He had a "cherry eye" so we had to pay for the surgery and now she is home with us. Vet says she's about five. She knows all sorts of tricks. I can't imagine how she ended up all alone. The rescue had him for over a month with out any calls. Meet "Bagel"

Hey Chaz
Final year vet student (and climber) here, just saw your picture of your Doberman with an avocado in it's mouth. Did you know that avocados (as amazing as they are) are poisonous to dogs? I'm not sure exactly what it is in the avocado that is poisonous, but all parts (including stems and leaves) of the avocado plant are toxic to some degree. In most dogs (consuming small amounts) it doesn't cause a problem, but in some it causes a gastrointestinal upset - diarrhea, vomiting, etc... and there have been reports of dogs "gorging themselves" on avocados and being found dead in the morning.
I gather that your dog spends a lot of time around avocados, just thought I'd alert you (and others) to a potential hazard, beyond choking on the pit.

Hope your hound is happy.

Graham

Edit: the toxin is persin

Bagel's life took a turn for the better, that's enough to make anyone smile.

I'm guessing that many other dogs having good lives on these pages were rescues as well.

Thanks, Graham.

I've heard about avocados being toxic, too.

The toxin is probably in the pit. They don't ever eat the pits ( but they eat the skin ).

My guys have been eating them forever. My Yellow Lab is at least 13, and she eats them all the time. She eats skunks, too. And Habernero Chiles, right off the plant!

The Doberman has been eating avocados since day-1.

She's had cancer, and spinal surgery already ( 5 years old ), so if she wants to live it up, it's OK with me.
