The Federal Public Defenders are a different tribe from the rest of them. They are usually highly competent and well vetted.
They would be able to steer Ammon the right direction in any case and answer his questions. If he meets the low income requirements, he wouldn't have to pay.
Wishing the best outcome for Ammon
Peace

Sorry! My misreading, perhaps - the complaint alleges that the two arresting officers were on duty. Presumably in uniform, though it doesn't say.

Wasn't aware of the book, but I can see why the author toned down the character into a more likable anti-hero when he (Donn Pearce) wrote the screenplay with Frank Pierson.
Hell, I just thought he didn't like paying to park where he had done so for free.
Judgmental heads, huh?
So if Ammon plays Luke, who is Dragline? Koko? Society Red? Loudmouth Steve? Boss Godfrey? Boss Paul? And, of course, the Captain?
Did you know that when Strother Martin first moved to Hollywood before he got parts he worked as a swimming instructor?

Spot on Jim. But don't worry. Your accurate commentary will be completely ignored.
Really Jim, I suggest you smoke sh#t loads of pot, then you can be hip and scream F*#K THE MAN.

Hey NY Neil... interesting idea.... so you wanted him to make up a story and lie his way out of it and then perhaps go into federal court and lie under oath? That is the so called "chongo tactic". Maybe he could get a bunch of guys to go in there and lie along with him and surely the court would believe them and not the arresting officers or the evidence!! That is so funny.... does the truth mean anything? Are we completely without integrity any more? Is there no such thing as "taking responsibility for your actions" any more? I think I know Ammon well enough to believe he will do the right thing and not resort to fabricating some fanciful story. Lying under oath is a much bigger deal than jumping off EC.
MTucker... man, you are a harsh dude...
I know Ammon has gotten legal advice and will do the best he can for himself. Sometimes it is a lot less trouble and expense to make your best deal and get the hell out of the situation. Lawyer fees can quickly bleed you dry... I know from experience. Oh I see from the above post that he is using a PD... so no fees... hope he will turn out to be happy with his choice.
Also, I was talking to some folks in the know, today, who said that NPS gives you back your jumping gear after the trial is over or when you plead out ... so that would take some of the financial sting out of it for him.
Best of luck Ammon... you have many friends who are pulling for you!!

Karl, Thanks man, your post has great merit.
Tom, thanks also, you know that Ammon is a man of integrity as are you my friend.
This was all because people want to have fun even if it is not the kind we want to have, right?
I hope you all enjoyed my drunken posts from last night., thought a bit 'O levity was in order. Keep smiling or you have nothing. Later friends. Gabe

Mtucker, why do you hate Ammon so much? Did you catch him in bed with your wife, or do you have a crush on him that he won't reciprocate? Seriously, he must have really gotten under your skin for you to be so obsessed.

Climb in a NP and you abide by the rules, like them or not.
There are lot's of rules broken by climbers all the time. 2 week limit. Speeding etc. It's not that simple.
Climbers who openly flaunt rules and then cry foul do no good for climbing in general. Grownups take their punishment and move on.
The main foul here was tasing in the back of the neck. Crying foul about this brings it to light and hopefully prevents it from happening again for other crimes that don't deserve it. Take the punishment for BASE quietly sure, but the tasing...

The NPS is out of control.
They know what they can get away with and their culture assures that they will do just that.
There needs to be some form of oversight, some accountability.
For example;
after the muzzle sweeping episode at Manure Pile a few months ago I wrote a very polite but concerned email to the Yo site.
They ignored it.
So I wrote an inquiry about it a month later.
They ignored that one too.
They have big carpets to sweep crap under.
