tenesmus, they are hot forged to get the cool shapes, not milled. I'm sure there is also post machining to the holes and fine details as well.

Isn't hot forged stuff generally less strong than cold forged or milled? At least that's what I am remembering?

Stiffer springs sound good to me. Less likely to walk. Looking forward to fondling one. I'm also interested in their new Shadow Secure biners.

Both hot and cold forging processes produce stronger components than machined (milled).

You can make more complex shapes with hot forging, and when heat treated after the hot forging process, these parts can be just as strong as cold forged parts.

"Camalikes" - good one.

I was looking at John Middendorf's cam drawings when I saw this sea shell cut and thought what amazing similarities.

Ma Nature has known about the logarithmic spiral for a looooong time.
It's still kinda new biz for tool makin' monkeys.
So I got to use the OP link cams today for the 1st time ever.
They are really frickin' cool.

Yup, them linkcams are quite the puppies. Though I bet they expand anything that can be expanded, if you fall on them.

It's kinda comical to hear a bunch of Americans whinging about foreign worker and environmental regulations.

Most of you guys only get 2 weeks paid-holiday per year yourselves. And it's the hubris that most of you drive which is responsible for a large proportion of the world's ozone issues.

As the good and great Will Gadd (BD sponsored athlete) writes in his blog "Supertopo is full of self-righteous posing by has-beens, wanna-bees, desk jockeys and poseurs".

Indeed, typing - action = 0. What did you do to stop jobs going off-shore? How often do you drive cause you are too f'n lazy? The hypocrites and dilletantes amongst you, I want you to defend yourselves.

It's possible that Will said that - tongue in cheek. After all, he's been known to lurk and even post on SuperTopo. 46 posts over the last 2 1/2 years, to be exact. I'm not sure which category he'd fit into, although as a family man he gets something of a bye. Still, the whole Red Bull/Black Diamond sponsorship thing suggests...

Haven't seen Will in a while. I'll have to remind him that there is at least one more category.lol

As for BD's commitment to community?
A bit spotty there. Mind you, I don't doubt that they've done some good stuff, but Peter Metcalf is a slippery character who will play political games twisting with the wind and welching on his word in the process and apparently thinking nothing of it.
In the past the company has had leadership with far more integrity.
(He is welcome to respond to this here. Somebody email me if he does.)

I'll be happy to see DMM do well.
