I think (or maybe audaciously hope) that he believes that what is best for the country is in his best interest. For that reason I don't expect him to push a particularly divisive agenda. Frankly, his biggest enemies will probably be the Congressional majorities.
As just one example, I expect him to propose some form of tax cut affecting many people, but do not expect any large rise in tax rates now. His advisors all believe that raising taxes in this sort of recession is economic suicide. His challenge will be to get Congress to go along
As others have said, the secret ballot in union organizing elections will go quickly. That was bought, paid for and promised. Aside from that, I do not expect him to jump into the equivalent of HillaryCare right away. The fairness doctrine, for example, would be a dangerous move. Trying to re-impose it would immediately revive the sort of divisiveness that's ruined republics throughout history.
In general, though, I expect some tilting, and even some lurching, to the left. The American people voted for this. Even though I am a conservative, and think many of these ideas will produce poor results, I would be disappointed if he didn't steer at least somewhat leftward. Otherwise, Dukakis was right, just 20 years too early -- the election is about competence, not ideology.
For the sake of the country, I hope he does well. I would rather that happen than he lead us where Carter did, even if the latter would bring my party back into power. I detest the partisanship that's been the hallmark of the last six years of American politics, and I will try not to be a part of it. I wish him well.

Jaybro, always need some inhabitants of this great planet to be "magical thinkers" ...keeping hope, joy, peace (the intangibles) alive and well.
Balance needed in every area of life.
JEleazarian, enjoyed your comments.

Prepare for the inevitability of political leadership. Obama will need to compromise on issues that are important to those that elected him. Personally this is why I voted for him, but people need to be ready for this. It's going to happen so let's not act all surprised and butt hurt.

Here's what a very real historian Webster Tarpley has to say about Obama and the men working for him behind the curtain. And when you watch this video (please do ... It's very new up to date) please think about what I saw on the morning news. We sent drones into N Pakistan last nite and bombed a village.

Kelly said "During his acceptance speech Obama said" There are many who won't agree with every decision or policy I make as president, and we know that government can't solve every problem." I remember just last week he was saying how he will solve all the problems and make wise decisions. "
Thanks for reminding us what we all voted against. People like you making comments like these. It's pretty obvious you didn't actually listen to Obama, because he has never said "I will solve all problems." You're like my Grandma who thinks that Obama said "spread the wealth" over and over and over again. In reality she heard Palin, McCain, Hannity and O'Reiley say it over and over and over again and simply attributes the repetition to Obama.
If you want to be upset about Obama then you will be. The rest of us have a lot of damage to repair and a new direction to forge for our country. You can be a part of it or you can make silly statements like this. We'd all much prefer if you were constructive.

I think the first thing Obama is going to have to do is say yes or no to all the crazy legislation that is gonna be coming his way from the democratically dominated house/senate. I know the whole world is behind him and the majority of the USA but can he be wise in what he approves/veto's and will he be able to get both parties to work together? After 8 years of Bush, I'm sure the dems have a LOT of "change" coming Obama's way in the form of new legislation. I'm just curious if Obama will just approve everything that comes his way.
Actually, if Bush doesn't beat him to it, the first thing Obama is going to do is create another economic stimulus package.
