Ok, so we now have new leadership. Pro about 90% of ST is jazzed. Good. I will support President Obama in my thoughts and prayers daily. Seriously.
So ST Peeps .... please Post what changes you expect to see. Let's get it in concrete now and see what happens in the next 4-8 years. What do you expect specifically ? What do you want to see happen. I heard ALOT of general anti dialogue for the other party. What exactly do you want this President to accomplish ?
Back up the Talk, Baby. (Always said that to my Hub...)

Very first thing he should do is the Royal Arches route.
The world will be dumbfounded. WTF is he doing now!!!!!
Then when he gets the the top he will say to the World ....
We are taking this all the way to the top.

Hasn't that been pretty clearly articulated (tactfully or not) on these threads throughout this campaign?
Perhaps a better question would be (at the risk of bold-faced plagiarizing) what can we each do to help bring a new change to the country?
Ask not what your country can do for you...ask what you can do for your country...

Yeah, if McCain won you'd want answers not "give me a break".

How about ending the war in Iraq and investing some of the $$ we spend there on renewable energy / alternative fuels now.

No, Lynne. I don't ever hold any expectation for others to explain the indiscernable future, just asking for a respite from business as usual.

So Warbler, any ideas after all the campaigning what President Obama will address first ? He presented many ideas on the Campaign Trail....not sure what the priorities of his agenda will be.
Trust me sir, I will be supporting him in thought and heart and prayer daily. He is my President.
Lynne
EDIT: Good Roughster, was that on his campaign list of "To Do" ? I agree with you.

The next 77 days are critical to the success of Obama's presidency. Obama has to choose his cabinet and senior appointees, decide on key policy directions, learn like a fiend, react to changing circumstances, and on and. In other words, hit the ground running on Wednesday morning.
He also has to resist the likely temptation of being asked to take any active role before January 20th. Until then, the tar baby (so to speak) is entirely Bush & Cheney's, which seems only reasonable considering that the economic situation, at least, is likely to worsen. Even as lame ducks, they can't be trusted, and will be under close scrutiny. But they may still try to involve Obama in economic decisions, or make a pretence of consulting him. Likewise there may be a lame duck session of Congress, where they look to Obama for leadership. Obama should stay entirely out of it, offering the response Roosevelt gave to Hoover from November 1932 - March 1933: "Mr. Hoover, you're the president, and I'm not."

I honestly feel that I felt the world breath a huge sigh of relief with the news tat Obama would be the next president of the US.
Think of how the world has seen the US in the last 8 years? Do you think they view us (the public that actually voted that Busch guy into office... twice!!!, this has turned out to be a bad idea, and I think the vote shows that), and when the US public has given a resounding nod of approval to Obama ("hey, look, they are all not as backward as we thought") this might send a signal around the world that we may have moved a step forward, and into the 21st century, and a little closer to what the rest of the world looks/feels like.

This really seems like pretty redundant, but...
A president who is articulate, intelligent, who uses the english language properly (for starters).
A thoughtful approach to leadership that carefully considers the opinions of others (even/especially those who disagree with him).
A drawing down of a war that we had no business starting in the first place.
An economic approach that considers something else besides the upper 2% income.
Supreme court justices that are something closer to the center of public opinion (or at least balance the extremes that have come to the court in the last 8 years).
An approach to energy that places more emphasis on conservation, and less on 'drill, baby, drill'.
Is this a good start? Again, nothing earthshaking, and certainly nothing that hasn't been posted here on ST ad nauseum.
I want to be proud to be an American again, and not ashamed of the leadership.

Healthcare reform. According to the Law School Admissions Council I am not eligible for fee waivers because I am under the age of 24 and do not have a child/have not served in the military/et cetera.
I want to see some rhyme and reason from state to state. Why should I not qualify for my parents' health insurance if I'm not a student at 18, yet have their income count toward my eligibility for fee waivers for graduate school until the age of 24?
Oops, this isn't my account...

...Ok, this is my account. I understand that neither candidate has promised to do what I asked to the extent I would hope, but it is what I'd like to see.

The next four years are going to be a huge challenge. There is going to be increasing turmoil, guaranteed. The country is wrecked financially -the fallout from the financial crisis has yet to really even begin.
I'm hoping he can fulfill his promise and bring the wars in Afghanistan be and Iraq to a responsible close, without compromising the stability and security of the region.
Hopefully we can make great strides on energy policy and climate change as well.
I'm overjoyed that he has won the election. It's a joy to hear him speak, to have an intelligent, thoughtful and articulate president. I'm cautiously optimistic that he turn out to be one of the best we've ever had.
