Get with the times! We have gone full circle and now realize the wisdom of "fashion" pioneers. Some old cool stuff that has been dissed is still cool for those of us who are into cracks - and I truely mean into cracks. I still use:
* Shoulder harness for gear
* Rugby shirt
* Knickers
and I even recently chose to use a swami on a climb named "Gopher It", and it worked quite well.

Furthermore, fanny packs never went out of style and are quite functional. I want some painters pants (again). Bring on the lycra! Whare can I get tye-dye these days?

(Loved their one hit wonder!)

(I would cut the shoulder pads off since I was broad enough, but I am guilty of loving square cut jackets, spandex skirts and big hoop earings.)

(Loved these! I thought the revolutionized theater forever!)

(L! I loved your comment! Oh I have been there too and I so feel for you!)
Just to give it a positive note: I must say my failed relationships and mistakes of the heart have also been the best life lessons. I hated having to learn those lessons the hard way but I must say... Nothing like pain to get something through my thick head that wouldn't enter otherwise. At least I am not making the same mistakes twice. I am creative with my mistakes...
