I just hung up a hammock in my back yard with some 2" tubular webbing. It used to be a swami belt. I even climbed with it after I bought my first harness - a Whilans nut buster.

Both were cool when they were brand new.

What's some other dumb stuff we used to think was cool?

Daisy chaining webbing

Doubled chains of biners

Walking from the parking area at Devils Tower to the base with my rack slung across my shoulder (instead of in my pack)

Body belaying a litter - with a patient in it.

EDIT: Lycra???? I still wear lycra chump!

Spaghetti-O's.

Edit: some more... speaking of lycra, those triathlon running shorts from the early 90's that were tights on the inside and trad shorts on the outside.

Stripped dolphin running gear from the 70's and 80's, especially those shorty-shorty running shorts (see Kevin Kline in the Big Chill).

Jimmie Dunn had some hollow Salewa biners and I just had to have some.....

I miss my Swami.

And still have my Lycra.

And had my knickers let out and wore them Sunday on the Whitney.

Flowered gear slings...must have.

I wanted one of those Strawberry Mountaineering chalkbags forever,I'd still buy one.

Titons were never cool.SMC camthingys either.

EB's had to have added leather sewn on.

Jesus I wish I could get one of those Eygyptian Cotton shirts Chouinard made today...da ones with da stripes.

Who had a rugby shirt they climbed in? And painters pants?

hey there... say, we were outdoor kids....

i used to love making mud-food... setting it up on boards, to "sell" or give to "pretend" folks to eat, etc... kind of like playing house in the great outdoor... feeding the "fake" critters mud pies and all.... nothing like playing with natural "toys" in the great out doors.... well, the mud was "cool" too, in more ways than one...

(did play house, dolls inside, too... thought that was cool, until i had kids)---having kids and your family was WAY MORE THAN COOL.... (welllllllll, until it ended... but the love of kids, hangs on, and they still give a holler off and on)....

oh, my.... usesd to think them little ol' transiter radios were cool, too... but now they have so much modern tech stuff that we never dreamed of..... but then, that's not as 'dumb' as:

playing in the mud! and thinking it just THEEEEEEEEE BEST!

thanks for fun!

hey there ep.... say, yeah, for those that go that route---not cool.... say, my friends daughter has thought drunk driving was cool.... she has run into the nearby ditches too often to count, they have told me.... and once, could have drowned...

this time, she got caught after----finally, she is starting to think it aint cool---- we are praying that this time she'll make the next step up, pasts this.... so she too can say:

"dumb stuff we used to think was cool"

thanks for share...
