You can buy a Schlitz Malt Liquor 24 anywhere. Well, almost anywhere. Malted pop argument is moot.

Colorado, hands down!

Why?

1) You can still smoke cigarettes in the Casino's here, for now....

And...

2) Just had a tornado in the back yard. I think it removed ALL the bolts on Turkey rock....

I wasn't making any kind of smarts joke, Jello. I lived in Belgium for a year and am a snob for their beer. But you need to join their national climbing club to climb at many of their crags.

So we've covered rock, ice, & now beer, let's not get into wine since we know California wins that contest.

How about live music, in the next month I plan to see;
Steven Stills
Femi Kunti
Sly & Robbie
Patti Smith
John Scofield
Lee Scratch Perry
The Abyssinians
Lyle Lovett
Bob Dylan

Everyone is playing in Boulder except Lovett & Dylan who will be down at Red Rocks.

Whatcha ya got Cali?

Good question, I know Scratch married a Swiss princess and now lives in Switzerland. He comes to town quite often but the shows are not the same unless the Mad Professor is at the soundboard.
Lyle still lives in Texas in the same home his grandfather built.
Sly & Robbie & the Abyssinians are still spread out in the caribbean.

Would you all ever cop on. The best place for climbing is Florida.

Jeez, I thought you would all know that.

The second best place is Washington DC...

... at least for lobbyists looking to climb up a politician's ass.

I don't have to get over myself. I just need to get over the urge to delve into these petty comparisons that seem to be the mainstay of people who enjoy contention and juvenile arguments such as "my dad is better than your day," and my state is better than your state, or whatever. It's like two pseudo-intellectuals sitting in a museum discussing art: "Rembrandt is better than Da Vinci." "No, Da Vinci is better than Rembrandt." "No, Rembrandt is better than Da Vinci." And then someone chimes in, "Yeah, well, El Greco is better than all of them." And then the first two say, "Get lost," or "Get over yourself." It's banal and about as low-mentality as anyone can get. But I'm sorry to be the one to say it, as I know it will open the floodgates of "Go screw yourself Ament, you filthy dog" comments, or "Stop taking yourself so seriously," as though that had any application whatsoever here. It's that I take both California and Colorado and lots of other places seriously that I find offense in these petty and superficial judgments. It's only to share my opinion, however, which I thought was allowed. But fortunately for those who dislike my personal sense of things, I'm done here. Carry on.

Well there are 2 kinds of comparative ventures Oli,
Those which contrast, highlight and appreciate differences and those which seek to shove one another aside in favor of a "winner".

The first utilizes an assay of differences to highlight mutual and exclusive strengths and is integrative and the second, on it's upside can help one to generate a preference, while on its downside, can be degenerative.

In an open forum you are going to see it all; more than half of the latter will be utterly in jest.
Diff'rent strokes fer diff'rent folks.

Oli, I think 99% of the posters on this forum love California AND Colorado, myself included (I've lived in Colo and often contemplate returning). I just don't understand why you let this thread get your goat. Seems pretty harmless as far as interweb forums go.

Before anyone get all riled up, let me say this was a joke. It seemed funny at the time (because it was.)

During the peak of the climbing season at Josh, we put up a note on the bulletin board at HVCC. It said simply:

Colorado = France of the USA

We then retired to the top of a nearby boulder and were entertained for hours by various folk's reactions.
