Mal, just got in from the Black Canyon with George Lowe,....150 year old team with a brand new rope. Took my second “walk of shame” in my twenty five years climbing there. Tweaked a rib muscle pulling out a stopper on Thursday, thought a days rest would cure it...but no, old age is creeping up on me. We got all the way to the base of the Russian Arete before I realized it was a no go. The 1,800 vertical ft. hike out was particularily fun as it was punctuated with little stabs of pain from the offending ribs.
You and Karen are having too much fun cruising around in your Casita....pack rafting and fly fishing. I may not be far behind you.
PS...your fabulous cooking skills don’t bode well for trimming down.

I'm 66. Did Black Orpheus with my partner of 45 yrs on Thursday. Took us 15 hrs c/c. Two days and we're still feelin it. Need 4 days off before we feel like climbing again. Arthritis hands and knees. Lots of vitamin I. But the climb was glorious, worth every ache and pain. Go for it, dude, the time is now...
Donini you're awesome...

Cut the carbs? Such ignorance.
I eat 80% carbs and weigh 160 at 6'1''.
Cut the processed carbs (and animal products) and replace with whole food plant based products.
There is no singular diet that is optimal for everyone. That said cutting carbs in favor of protein has helped thousands upon thousands of people. And of course it goes without saying that quality foods are essential.

Galen Rowell let me race his tricked-out Corvette from the valley to TM and back one day while he rode along with a stop watch. I couldn't tell you what the time was ... too much fun!
We both thought that Corvette was better than his AC Cobra
Jeff Schoolfield would probably have aced either of us in either car and with less fuss

As to the OP's original topic
His quest,
relocating to paradise from paradise because the money sounds like a lot?
"""I know what you're thinking: Have I fired six shots or only five?' Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement, you've kinda lost track. But being this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful Rest-of-your-life size Question in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?"""
A large amount of cash is a reason, crowded open spaces, also a reason, the need to live a more copacetic life where the cost of living allows to pursue real living, seems to be the only good reason
Beyond that last calling to chase a bucket list I hope that grasping the short hairs and opening the gate outside the bull... ring leads you to green pastures...
Location, Location Location.
but what does that mean?
you have set some of the priorities that you are looking to satisfy.
Do you care about re-sale value? continued appreciation?
What is the timeline ? are you tied to a date?
What about Ekat's place?
Have you accepted the offer when is the closing?
Marble Caves Of Lake General Carrera (Chile)
That's far form the maddening crowd
And to the sub-topic
GRRR, & hah-saah (that's taking a deep breath)
I know this is a share to far
And that no one wants to read this
but I can't stop being me, sigh...
Statins have sapped muscle,
carbohydrate and sugar addiction have mixed with inactivity
add that to a slowing metabolism and a desk-job leading
to more sedentary hours...
Then too, a failure to do adequate 'push aways'
as in push away the plate of pasta from the ole' pie hole...
I'm working on being as round as I am tall.
The thing that most stops me from climbing though is my soft feet.
After having lost my pinky-toe, toenails back when glove tight green Run-Outs worn a size to small was all the rage.
Ever since, I've struggled to allow some sort of nail to take root & hang on for a whole climbing season.
Years of wearing tight-fitting climbing shoes has led to climbing in well fit stiff climbing boots & augmented; stiffened at the toe, approach shoes.
I still jump on random rocks.
If it were not for a fear of Ticks I'd still be searching along the contours of hillsides for double-gnome-size granitic schist to climb.
It IS the journey & fun of discovery, the exploration that satisfies the gnawing need . . . That scratches the itch. . .
That brings the glow of wonder out of the glorious cathedral of nature

Instead of Vitamin I, may I recommend CBD oil? It works better, you feel mellower and it lowers eye pressure if you have glaucoma.

Rich said: But after all that time before the mast, it turns out I just like the activity.

After blowing my leg up I thought I was finished for sure. Four years later I'm back out there for the reasons Rich just stated. The greatest joy turns out not in how hard I go (though I'm just made to want to push it), but being out there in the first instance. Something about Old Man Gravity hooked my attention and never let go. Should I be so lucky to have something to love.

Academics have found increasing evidence that happiness through adulthood is U-shaped – life satisfaction falls in our 20s and 30s, then hits a trough in our late 40s before increasing until our 80s.
Research shows that older people feel less stress and regret, dwell less on negative information and are better able to regulate their emotions. Nor is status competition as important.
As we get older, our values change. “You hear people say, ‘I don’t feel the need to check those boxes any more’, or ‘I don’t care that much what other people think’.”
Older people feel relieved of a burden that makes it easier to savour other simpler pursuits such as spending time with grandchildren, a hobby or volunteer work.
