Early welcome to the great San Joaquin Valley! People who say you're crazy are just jealous because it takes them 2-5 hours to get here on the way to go climbing and we can go the The Valley for the afternoon.
The air is better than it's been in 50 years. But ya, it's not great, unless you drive 30 min east into one of the best mountain ranges on Earth!
Also, kind of a big area but the climbing community is small and friendly so it won't take long to meet a few people, especially if you take micronut's invite to the early morning metalmark sessions.
The main bummer is that if you only have an hour or so free there's not a lot. But with a day or even half a day you can enjoy
-Climbing (duh)
-Fishing
-Whitewater
-Snowmobiling
-Backcountry skiing (splitboard in my case)
-Mountain Biking
-Golf
-Disc Golf
-Hiking
-Caving
-Dirtbiking
-Boating
-Hunting
-Cow tipping
Welcome again. My pregnant wife, 1.5 year old son and I are down in Visalia so feel free to look us up.
What brings you to Fresno anyway?

Welcome to the Fresno area. Ignore some of the negativity here as this is a great area. Metalmark is the excellent climbing gym here. Fresno is very near the geographical center of California, so there is tons of climbing within a few hours drive. While you can go pull a number to do a classic in Yosemite and the Meadows, you can go up to Courtright or The Balls and do the same without ever having to wait in line. Bishop's Peak in SLO is within a weekend's trip as well many other areas. Then you have the Needles and Dome Rock plus Domelands, the last where you will never see another climber. We even have ice climbing if the conditions are right (if this drought continues, maybe not this year). If you ever want me to show you around or give you some suggestions on good places to climb, let me know.

All that has been said is true. Except...Micronut is a dentist. I have been to the office, I've met the staff, I've seen the operative photos, I've experience the Powerpoint lectures on Bone grafting for Implant preparation, but I have yet to actually see Micro working on a patient. Though I did work with him in Nepal in a dental clinic, but that was extracting teeth which I had a crack at as a physical therapist. I truly believe he is subsidized by ST assisting in the maintence of the site which he is truly gifted at. Anyhow enough about the Nut brothers. Truly, truly welcome to the Taco and can't wait for you guys to come to Fresno and show off our town. It really is Fres-yes! Will hook up as Scott says to have dinner and get acquainted, but may have to be seperate as to not overwhelm you with 11 kids between the two of us. Again welcome and look forward to meeting you.

Here I am on a deep water solo at a spot near Vancouver, BC. Moving to Califronia feels a bit like this photo to me…..really excited, nervous for a big move, natural, and part of our next adventure as a family. Thanks everyone.

Welcome Sea to Sky, both to ST and to Fresno. So much good climbing in your reach.
I have the book...it's excellent. Literally left there two hours ago and am in a motel in Fresno freshining up before heading to Red Rocks.
We climbed at Crocodile Rock today....some of the most beautiful rock I have ever experienced Way cool to hear Jim, especially all the rocks you have seen. Cool getting a phone call from you too, next June I'd like to meet up and climb something.

Welcome to the Taco Stand, from a Californian living in Ireland for years.
It can get rowdy around here. Just do not click on the threads that have no relevance to your lives, otherwise there is a lot of good stuff.
