Interesting to hear the propaganda from the nay-sayers.

Mick Ryan for instance.
"n 1997 Climbing magazine, under the editorship of Duane Raleigh, ran a front cover of the climber Rikki Ishoy. The photo had no relation to any content in the magazine, it wasn't a photograph of a significant ascent, you couldn't really see the rock, she was two inches off the ground and it was captioned wrong.

It was a close-up picture of a pouting half-naked woman in a bikini top, basically a picture of her breasts and her right inner thigh, of obvious appeal to the majority of testosterone-fuelled climbers to buy the magazine, and of course they did. It was a photograph of a woman whose body conformed to the stereotypical images you see in glamour magazines, even if that wasn't what the photographer intended - visual images are almost always pre-meditated and the photographer Corey Rich is a pro - and even though the climber was an intelligent “real” climbe
r.

One can argue with every bit of his drivel:
The truth, of course, is that Ms. Ishoy wasn't pouting. And she was wearing acceptable climbing clothing - she was assuredly not "half naked." You can stare at the silhouette of her breasts if you choose - or you can choose to marvel at the look of concentration on her face, the chalk hanging in the air, the sweet pockets on the rock face. The photo is content related - of a climber, climbing - in a magazine appropriately entitled Climbing.
You see the Mr. Ryan's projection at work, followed by his admitted hypocrisy in his own publication.
Not judging, and I respect him, but it doesn't make this sensationalistic drivel any higher quality.

Still a beautiful, compelling, inspiring shot, related to the magazine topic, and so I don't see a ton of room for criticism available - particularly in light of much worse tactics employed by most other magazines in the business on any topic.

Respectfully,
~Aaron

What values are those?
