I was a guest on her show, talking about the Tour de France. She asked very good questions and listened to my answers and then asked good follow-up questions as well. I was impressed.

Usually with questions like this thread means you're unsure which fence your leaning on.
And .... you're unsure what neighborhood you got lost in ......

Werner,

I know exactly which fence I'm leaning on.

I consider myself a social liberal and fiscal conservative, believe in free enterprise and advocate meritocracy. I loathe misguided entitlement, unfair social subsidy and hate grifters and skids who ride my hard earned tax dollars. I don't think either the Democrats or Republicans own higher moral ground than the other and both ultimately serve the same corporate oligarchs, not unlike our sham of a democracy up north. I'm definitely not here to bash one or the other as there are some great leaders in both parties.

As I said in my original post, I find Ms. Maddow's commentary provocative, entertaining and occasionally informative. I definitely don't see her as a bastion of unbiased truth as no such thing exists on this planet much less in politics and broadcast journalism.

As far as what neighborhood I'm in, I think I'm at the ST campfire where a variety of opinions and views are presented, discussed and slagged to death before we move on to a fresher flavor.

Thanks for letting me stand at the fire.

Can I borrow that? It's really good.

I personally think that Maddow is a hack.

While she may have the raw intelligence to be a good journalist, she is a piss poor journalist at best, and an even worse pundit. She does absolutely nothing to "get to the bottom of things."

She is certainly not as extreme or as out there as Glenn Beck, Hannity, O'Reilly or the other right-wing pundit hacks (and news station), but she's representative of what's wrong with the press today, of how poorly the press is playing its role as the "4th estate", and is right at the heart of the problem that motivated John Stewart's / Stephen Colbert's rally.

Just watch her interview with John Stewart (sorry don't have the link), he hits the nail on the head of how poorly she is doing her job (he does it in a very polite and honorable manner).

What do we call people that aren't "people of color?"

People without color?

Or just white?

Is white not a color?

Anyway...

I rarely watch, but Maddow is good.

Comparisons to Hannity are absurd. Hannity is noting but propaganda machine. He would do well in the North Korean media.

Maddow is an actual journalist. She has a bias, but she's a journalist.

She seems so reasoned and thoughtful when compared to the right wing morons she's up against.

edit: Gee Jolly Rodger, it must be lonely up there on that pedestal.

It's interesting trying to divine that fine line between passionate and informed discourse and raving vitriol seasoned with cruel invective. Both appear well represented once again.

I think JR is spot on. But you may have guessed that from my earlier rant.

Cecil Rhodes was a racist pig, that hated black people with a passion.

he must be flopping in his grave over the numerous African Amerikan recipients.

What point are you trying to make JR? That Rhodes scholars are not legitimate because Rhodes was a racist?

Thats about the same as saying NASA shouldn't exist because Werner Von Braun was a Nazi.

I'm probably going to regret this, but....

...tell us, JR, who are your preferred sources of news, information, or opinion?

On the other hand, maybe I can guess....

Only when you achieve a deep understanding can you tell what is and isn't truth. Otherwise you just fall in line like the rest.

Bingo! And it doesn't take a Rhodes Scholar to have that deep understanding. A good BS-meter works very well.

t is a shame that you can't just get the news. There is no news other than the BBC and AP/Reuters.

Strangely enough, the Voice of America does a pretty good job.
