Biotch and others, NO, oil doesn't necessarily mean destruction of our oceans. BP consciously took three extremely dangerous shortcuts to save them a million dollars a day in drilling costs, and the explosion and the disaster were a direct result. Maybe you haven't been following this carefully. The driller received direct orders to ignore the fact that the rubber seal that is a mile under the water and is supposed to hold 16,000 psi of pressure, had been damaged. Then the drillers received direct orders to use salt water rather than driller's mud to hold the pressure as they sealed off the pipe.

I also read that over the last 3 years BP has had over 700 safety violations. The second leading offender over that period had 8.

Yes, industrial society is hard on the environment; but then there are mad men who should go to jail, and Obama would me negligent if he weren't mad as hell.
