Haven't sent Ken anything yet, but I'm pretty sure he wants the original bat tent and Hardings hammers and home made figure eight.

Got checks from Flamingo and Bob in Kalispell. Another $300. Way to go gang. This latest adventure to Flagstaff is going to eat up most of the $950 sent this month, so I'm staying at it.

Thanks, Ron - as with Todd's good works, it's nice to see transparency in regard to fundraising for good causes on SuperTopo. IMHO, it's best that everything be up front, and of course to ensure that all supporters/donors are properly thanked.

Assuming that they're not shy and modest, of course. I believe that in some religions, one is supposed to do good works without any expectation of thanks or even gratitude, but that seems a bit much for us mortals.

Good news, bad news, worse news;

Layton got back home already this morning. I cringe to think of him driving weak AND with his vision problem, AND at 90mph, oy vey!
But once again Mr. Kor pulls it off.

Now the bad news.
He is back on the sub-clavian, more prone to infection. He can't swim so the SCUBA diving trip we were talking about is on hold. Right now the trick will be to get his strength up. He has trouble eating enough because his fluid intake is limited.
Then he's gonna need to make another trip to Denver to the only doc who has been successful with the fistulla implant.
Just this latest 2 day jaunt to Flagstaff has run up over $1,200.00 in co-pay so despite our best efforts we are behind.

And the trip to Denver's gonna be expensive and he won't be in any shape to underwrite it by giving another show.

(and yes Anders, Judaism is such a religion. Not surprising since it was the first to have human rights laws, public schools and libraries, courts of law etc.)

I just emailed my Mrs to send you another check (i am overseas), let's hope it covers some of the recent expenses. If it matters, I need aid and big wall gear, but I will give you a call Friday and we will talk. I have an idea. In fact, I have a couple.

Slevin is the greatest.
(You in Moscow?)
Yes, we'll talk. You want aid gear I got aid gear.

Unfortunately I appear to have been mistaken in my a*#umption that the banks could (and I still think they COULD if they really wanted to) intercept the physical checks and save them for their signatures.
An hour on the phone with Wells Fargo (of which I'm a part owner fer phux ache) was for nought.

We need to find things for Layton to sign.

I have 2 copies of Earl Wiggens' coffee table book, Canyon Country Climbs, still pristine in the wrappers.

Would anyone want a copy signed by Layton for $500?

(If you want I could sign it too, having put up the route on the cover and gotten some mention too)

EDIT
apparently assumptions are not permitted on the taco YOU GOTS TA KNOW FER SURE.

EDIT #2
apparently sometimes one can say,.. assumption.

Given that the need for funding may be ongoing, perhaps it would be possible to reprint Beyond the Vertical. A limited edition, signed by Layton, and perhaps other climbers in it (Ament, Chouinard, Robbins, etc etc), might generate reasonable income in a way that he would be OK with. Might Patagonia be interested in such a project? They backed Glen Denny's book, and maybe others.

Yes, almost all religions at least pay lip service to charitable works in the true meaning of the word. Some are more accepting of recognition for it than others, bearing in mind the example of the Franciscans. God's first draft picks aren't the only ones who believe humility goes with good works, although some here provide a fine example of putting it into practice.

Beyond the Vertical not possible.
This has been discussed already.

But Albert just forwarded an idea, mint copies of the National Geographic with the Titan FA article (mine is signed by Huntley, a prized possession).

Ron, I just sent you an e-mail regarding shirts.

Everyone, I am waiting to get approval to use a classic Kor image for a shirt. I hope to have the approval tomorrow morning and the second I have that details will be announced on an affordable way to help Layton AND get a cool shirt! STAY TUNED!!!

For those who ordered the Bridwellfest shirt... The shirts arrived this morning and they are FANTASTIC!!! Shipments went out today and will be finished Wednesday morning. If you didn't get one of those... you will be sorry!

Slevin learns from his dog...

You in Moscow?
Yep, I am. Hate this place - nasty weather, lousy city, no real rock for miles and miles.

Hey Ron here is a little bump. I have been out of town for the last week. Where do I send my check? Unfortunately my bank keeps the check so no signature for me. Still have that stuff?

Thanks and keep up the good work. Hope Layton is doing better!

Packages went out to Bob, Flamingo, and Munge.

I decided to use the USPS rather than UPS.
Picked up one of those medium size flat rate boxes for what is likely to be a substantial amount of aid gear for slevin.

Hey Ron,
The tubes and triangle thing is what I mention in a message sent you by PM. I hope that rings a bell. I totally understand how busy you must be.
Where do I send the check?

Send it to me. I will forward it to Layton and send gear.

POB 3
Toquerville, UT

Make sure to include postal shipping address and specific gear request.
(I was just looking at the tubes yesterday thinking "I know somebody wanted these,...")

The check/signature thing doesn't seem to fly with the banks but, no guarantee, if you include a note to forward to LK he HAS been pretty good in the past about writing thank you notes, but he is feeling pretty weak so I don't know.

Pretty soon Steve'll post an updated photo on what is left.

Nobody wants Kyle's Soloist????

Good news foks! I just obtained rights to use Galen Rowell's shot of Layton topping out on the Salathé as a fund-raising T-shirt for Layton!

I will work up the final design tonight or Friday AM and post details ASAP.

And that's not all.

We're going to auction off some 11X14 prints too once they are signed.

I want to thank all of the people who's largess and efforts have proven to offer substantial economic relief to someone so deserving by virtue of the inspiration he has given all of us.

Substantial amount of gear deserves a substantial check.

How's he doing?

Layton is working on gaining strength.

He'll be happy to find Mike and Ben's checks shortly.

But Slevin is still the champ, and sounds like he's not going to leave it at that.

A New York- Moscow jetsetter that climbs too?
Who is this Slevin? The world wonders.
