I just have one question. Is Kait the same GF that he left standing there in the meadow while he ran off to save his own skin? If so, kudos to her for standing by him, as that's clearly more than he did for her.

"there are a bunch of as#@&%es on this site. leave the guy be...."
Well, that's all nice, fuzzy and warm, but here's the problem. When you are a high profile, sponsored individual, and you do something like this, there will be repercussions.
This isn't over by a long shot...

I've heard this many times from jumpers. I don't know anything about base jumping. Why the NPS has such a hard on over this particular activity is rather baffling to me.

Ammon seems like a really good guy. Anyone bashing him is probably jealous of him. He's known for being a great climber and jumper. What have his detractors done? Oh yeah, nothing. Anonymous cowards - forget them.
Lots of wasted resources for a victimless crime. The rangers were just doing their jobs so I don't blame them, except for the tasing, that was weak.
We have the rangers story and Ammon's story. I really hope there's a video to show what really happened, because otherwise Ammon's version will probably be thrown out.

BASE104 - just wanted to say that I really enjoy reading your posts (always have), as you offer a lot of good info and have a lot of history in the sport.
As for calls to end this thread, Ammon himself has posted more than once, and the discussion has taken its twists and turns,
for better or worse.
Oh, the humanity!
Edit: BASE104 - bummer that you apparently just deleted your last posts; mine now appears out of place.
Your posts actually contained good info that in no way disparaged Ammon; just good common-sense advice.

I was trying to refrain from posting again and might even get sucked in after this post. As Scott suggests above: this thread will be gone seconds once I see Ammon ask it to be.
Sorry dudes, I've never deleted a thread yet, and deleting threads is lame but not in this case - that's how I roll. Also, for myself: I'm not so quick to blindly accept the police version of events given how many times lately they've gotten caught on camera making sh#t up and lying. I'd believe any version Ammon pitches over any police officers any day. Sorry, but Ammon has been known to be an honest person all his life while you can toss a biscuit anywhere in most large cities and hit a dishonest cop. They'd never let me sit on a jury, but if they move it to Fresno and have a bunch of Latinos sit on the jury....I've known some of those guys down there in Manteca and Merced and they are good solid folks who would most likely believe like me on this.
BTW, unfortunately Coz and Kait - I can't erase it in that sense, just make it disappear to posters, all that everyone has posted above will still be available to law enforcement (not that rumors and innuendo will do anyone any good). Good and the bad, they will be able to see it if they want too.
Good luck Ammon!

What Couchmaster said is true - if he deleted his OP, all subsequent posts would remain with no chance of further editing.
The only way all posts would disappear would be if an admin deleted the thread, and it would take Ammon requesting
such directly from Chris Mac for that to happen.
Until then...

If Ammon were to email the site admin and ask that this thread be deleted, it will be the smartest thing he has done yet in connection with his arrest.
I hope he can pony up for a good lawyer.

as for RESPECT...
early on, someone posted the gist of what was on the official complaint or whatever it is, and then he deleted his post. i emailed that poster and i asked him why he deleted it. he replied and stated plainly that it was possibly less than flattering, and ammon might not really want it posted here.
that's what respect looks like, IMO.
as for the rest of this-
let's just keep on posting so this unflattering thread so that it stays on the front page permanently, shall we?

Pardon my naievete but I don't think anything that's been posted here can hurt Ammon's case. It's all either public record or mere speculation, opinion and rant.
However, anyone who's posted here or probably even read here will likely have themselves dismissed from his jury if it comes to that.
The issue of appropriate use of force by the Yosemite LEOs is entirely in order. Or Out of Order in my opinion.
The consequences of failing to stop on command of an LEO is clear.
The various charges and their penalties are informative and somewhat disturbing.
Passionate discussion of this issue seems to me to be entirely appropriate.

And deleting the thread will have zero effect - servers cache and backups - all will be subject to subpoena. Once posted, it's in the public domain - might as well leave it so people can gain historical perspective and waste hours mulling through 800 posts of color commentary. We'll be talking about this for years, guaranteed. Delete this thread, and another will pop up (as it already has).
I have a lot of trouble lumping the base community in with the climbing community, unless of course its more vocal members here are not representative. Bottom line is you have my support until you do dumb sh#t to jeopardize your cause. Jumping illegally is dubious, but doing it while intoxicated, and running from the law when confronted. I don't see much to whine about. He effed up and got caught running. Take your lumps. I keep coming back to the fact that he knowingly and willingly jumped illegally - and I cannot help but think that jeopardizes opening up jumping in the valley more than it helps. If I were a jumper - I'd be pissed at such a selfish act, just like I am pissed to hear of climbers ignoring closures for whatever reason.
I'm all for freedom, too. But your freedom shouldn't hurt other people's potential for freedom.

Very amusing as to how people can't let it end. Seems certain people are so opinionated and perfect in their own ways that they can't leave well enough alone. Free country I guess, but sad that someones ill fortune, whether deserved or not, becomes others fodder.
