So Tony, can we invite you to list a few of the "questions" you believe
are behind the Nobel award?

Like maybe Obama made an under the table cash donation to the committee,
because he really, really, wanted to be the winner? What "questions"?

Newser) – President Obama’s election has increased America’s standing in the world, new polling shows. Global attitudes toward the US have been bolstered by Obama’s election to levels not seen since the Clinton administration, the New York Times reports. In Indonesia, for instance, where the president spent part of his childhood, 73% of respondents said their opinion of the US improved with Obama’s election.

The French and Germans both have more confidence in the US president than in their own leaders, and 86% of Britons trust Obama to do the “right thing.” Last year, only 16% of Britons had the same opinion of President Bush.

"The Republican Party has thrown in its lot with the terrorists -- the Taliban and Hamas this morning -- in criticizing the President for receiving the Nobel Peace prize," wrote DNC Communications Director Brad Woodhouse. "Republicans cheered when America failed to land the Olympics and now they are criticizing the President of the United States for receiving the Nobel Peace prize -- an award he did not seek but that is nonetheless an honor in which every American can take great pride -- unless of course you are the Republican Party. The 2009 version of the Republican Party has no boundaries, has no shame and has proved that they will put politics above patriotism at every turn. It's no wonder only 20 percent of Americans admit to being Republicans anymore - it's an embarrassing label to claim."

I think he won because he refused to meet with the Dali Lama.

right.. nominated..

It may be due to the fact that he has, in some small way, stopped the hemmeraging fo an entire nation.. hemmeraging caused by the Bush-League-Of-Gentlemen!

but maybe not.. maybe it's because of something else that I don't even know that he did?

An Associated Press-GfK pollsays 56 percent of those surveyed in the past week approve of Obama's job performance, up from 50 percent in September.

Fewer disapprove of performance
Overall, 39 percent said they disapproved of Obama's performance in office, down from 49 percent last month.

While a majority of those surveyed remain pessimistic about the direction of the country, that number has begun to improve, too. The poll found 41 percent now believe the U.S. is headed in the right direction, compared with 37 percent in September.

ATTACK THIS SOURCE; the ASSOCIATED PRESS, clearly a LEFT wing PAWN, morons

I think Ken M nailed it. If you want to be cynical, he got it because he isn't Bush. If you want to be more upbeat about it, it's because he has adopted a policy that restored the country's lustre to the rest of the world, whether it's real or just promised.

For all the red-tards out in Tacoland that rarely venture from their red state comfort zone, it may come as news that most of the world really likes our country. While lots of Europeans, for example, like to think of Americans as stupid (it's total insecurity but, given the culture we export and the half of the country that voted for W twice, who can blame them), they like us and what the country symbolizes.

They admire the ideals that we espouse of personal liberty, etc. However, they also expect us to walk the walk, not just pay lip service to it. When our President states as a matter of policy things like "The United States of America does not torture" that speaks volumes compared to the former administration that didn't put the interests of its own citizens at the forefront but, rather those of inner circle of cronies.

I find it hypocritical that our leader wins the PEACE prize on the same day we fire rockets and bomb the moon!! Our leader has taken the fight interplanetary!!!
W at least kept his conquering ambition to a global level.

PS- The moon people will get the last laugh when we find out there's no oil on the moon.

What is really entertaining is watching the Repugs reaction to this- they are completely apoplectic about it! They continue to follow the strong path of favoring failure of anything Dem or Obama, regardless of the value to the country.

I am as incredulous as Rush or Ron Anderson about his selection, but like John noted, it's nice to be a citizen of a country whose POTUS has been awarded.

It would seem that the GOP's go-negative (at all costs, on all issues) strategy hinges on some kind of scandal or slip-up on the part of the Dems or Obama, at which time they will be in the position of saying 'we told you so', while having been true to their extremist base. While such a scandal just might eventually happen, in the meantime, they are doing unbelievable harm to the GOP 'brand', tossing out moderates as they go, shrinking their voting base, and would seem to be at great risk of having tarnished the name so completely that even a Dem scandal wouldn't be enough to bring them back to power.

First, I'd certainly rather have seen Greg Mortenson get the award. Pretty sure Obama himself would agree.

Second, what's more ridiculous, Obama getting the Nobel, or Bush awarding Paul Bremer (who effed up the first two years of the Iraq occupation) with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian honor?

Pretty lame attempt there. Somehow, I don't think a conservative American guest contributor qualifies to speak on behalf of the Euros.

I was personally hoping that Greg Mortenson would win the NPP.

Although, I am also bummed that BIOLOGISTS won the Nobel Prize in CHEMISTRY. Oh well. I suppose ribosomes are sort of important.

Zetedog, I'm reasonably confidant that the funding/approval of the moon-bombing came through during the GWB presidency. Although, in all honesty I'm still trying to find an official source that details that information.

Did he really refuse to meet with the Dali Lama?

That is terrible.

What did the guy do to with the Peace Prize?
Its a complete mystery to me.
