The state of confusion
Topic Author's Original Post - Oct 9, 2009 - 08:43am PT
It's kind of hard to believe when he's only been in office less
than a year and has hardly accomplished anything. . .especially peaceful.
Troops still in Iraq, more may be heading to Afghanistan. . .

Why not Greg Mortenson, who really deserved it????

President Obama wins the Nobel Peace Prize in his first year in office! Only the third sitting president to be so honored.

Yep if it couldn't be a tea drinking failed K2 climber then Obama is a wonderful choice.
Turning the world's image of the American Presidency around in less than 9 months is amazing.
A significant political "climate change" to be sure.

Suck on that republican nay sayers.
I bet Glen Beck chokes on his crocodile tears.

I guess Fats was too busy being wrong on his predictions about Spurious George getting his ugly mug carved on Mt. Rushmore and Israel attacking Iran to pick up on this possibility.
When you spend your time as a cheerleader for war it must be easy to over look the Peace makers.

Regardless of what anyone thinks of this selection, perhaps it can still benefit Greg.
Perhaps we can all send snail mail & email & urge Obama & Michelle to donate some of the prize money to Greg Mortenson! Maybe even enclose a capy of Three Cups of Tea. If Obama/Michelle receives mutiple requests (and copies of the book), it would be very convincing.

New qualifications for winning the nobel peace prize:

Watch as Russia invades Georgia and call for BOTH nations to cease their “aggression”

Bow to the completely intolerant king of Saudi Arabia whose own support for wahhabism spawned obl

Commit to high level talks “without preconditions” with the world’s most thuggish regimes, thereby, LEGITIMIZING said regimes

Sit idly by as noko test fires missiles and even refuse to use our newest radar system to track the missiles, much less shoot down those missiles which would have been well within our rights

Say NOTHING as iran murders political protestors in the streets and claim America should not “interfere”

Then interfere when the Honduran government legally removes their president in a constitutionally provisioned move supported by members of the former president’s own party

Chair the un security council but say NOTHING about iran’s secret uranium enrichment plant that violates un resolutions, proves false all promises by iran to cooperate with international inspectors, and, by design, can only be used for military grade enrichment…then, say NOTHING when iran responds to your calls for immediate (in two weeks) inspections by test firing long-range missiles, AGAIN, in violation of un resolutions…then, remain mute when iran agrees to inspections in three weeks, or not

Put an immediate stop to a missile defense system in eastern Europe, thereby betraying our allies (who supported us in Afghanistan and Iraq) while appeasing russia who offered NOTHING in return, not even promises

As a candidate, chastise Pakistan for seeking cooperation with the Taliban, then as president suggest that the Taliban be part of any afghan government (yes, the same Taliban that oppresses women, destroys ancient and sacred sites, and provides safe haven for extremists who pursue global jihad…as a candidate, declare Afghanistan a “necessary war”, then as president dither while our soldiers die and give every indication that the preference is a scaling back thereby emboldening the enemy (in Afghanistan and everywhere else)

Say nothing when the ag drops the case against a group of domestic thugs that threatened with violence voters in our own election

Encourage a celebration of red china’s take over but refuse to meet with dalai lama

well, i must agree that barry's efforts at world peace have been "extraordinary"

LONDON – President Barack Obama was praised Friday as a worthy Nobel Peace Prize winner although many admirers said the award was based on his potential, not his accomplishments.

But even Obama's backers concede he cannot yet point to concrete changes brought about by his initiatives.

"When I heard it on the radio I said Hallelujah!" said 65-year-old James Andaro. "It's God's blessing. This win is for Africa."

So now you get Nobel Prizes for potential. Hard to believe there wasn't anyone else in the world a bit more deserving this year.

"So now you get Nobel Prizes for potential. Hard to believe there wasn't anyone else in the world a bit more deserving this year."

From
http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/europe/10/09/nobel.peace.prize/index.html

The Nobel committee recognized Obama's efforts to solve complex global problems including working toward a world free of nuclear weapons. Watch the announcement of Obama as 2009 Nobel Peace Prize recipient

"Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future," the committee said.

Jagland said the decision was "unanimous" and came with ease.

He rejected the notion that Obama had been recognized prematurely for his efforts and said the committee wanted to promote the president just it had Mikhail Gorbachev in 1990 in his efforts to open up the Soviet Union.

Maybe the 'potential' issue has been around for longer than we think...

bookworm you're cracking me up, stop it!

New qualifications for winning the nobel peace prize:

Watch as Russia invades Georgia and call for BOTH nations to cease their “aggression”

You are so right there. When Russia invaded Georgia in August 2008 President Obama should have put a halt to it!

Bow to the completely intolerant king of Saudi Arabia whose own support for wahhabism spawned obl

George W. Bush certainly knew how to handle those Saudis.

Commit to high level talks “without preconditions” with the world’s most thuggish regimes, thereby, LEGITIMIZING said regimes

Did you hear that from El Rushbo. That's very strange logic.

Sit idly by as noko test fires missiles and even refuse to use our newest radar system to track the missiles, much less shoot down those missiles which would have been well within our rights

Certainly George W. Bush would have done that. If North Korea sat atop an ocean of oil.

Say NOTHING as iran murders political protestors in the streets and claim America should not “interfere”

Let's see, he's got Russia moving our way on Iran, and the Iranians are making concessions as well. That must be a bad thing, right?

bookworm, open your mind. You've got a brain, why not think for yourself, why let El Rushbo think for you?

Watch as Russia invades Georgia and call for BOTH nations to cease their “aggression”

Independent report from the EU says that Georgia triggered the war.

http://www.montrealgazette.com/news/Georgia+Russia+compete+spin+report/2050980/story.html#

So had Obama actually been president, talking to both sides probably would have been an entirely appropriate action.

I wouldn't go so far as bookworm's raving, but I, too was pretty surprised to hear this. Obama's accomplishments are still very much on the 'to do' list, and I haven't been particularly impressed with the efforts he has made to swing the pendulum back towards the center. Mortenson would have been a far clearer choice, though not nearly as much of the rest of the world has any idea who he is.

The NPP for potential, not accomplishments? Geez, I wonder if I can get a raise that way...

Barack Obama in I had no idea we had a constitution.

being clueless that we have no constitution - which is just a bunch of right winged brainwashing if you actually believe that - would still be better than using said constitution to wipe your butthole with like bush and co. did.

congrats obama... this is great!
