We'll do, Tarbuster. I had to break out the overhead projector so I could start sketching out the design last night
--looks like this thing's going to be at least 5 feet wide.
No skimping on Red Rocks...

thanks for the RR pics, all. You've been a great help and inspiration.

Here's a rough pic of the treefrog mural I'm just finishing...

I had the honor and pleasure of creating a bristlecone mural for fellow supertopian SteveW.
It arrived on his doorstep just this morning.
(I think the UPS driver was glad he was home to help carry it from the truck!)
He gave me permission to share a pic of the finished product with you all...

Thanks for the chance to do this amazing piece, Steve!
It's my favorite mural so far! :)

Thanks!
It was a great idea for a mural--the bristlecone pines have so much character and energy.
I'm stoked that Steve gave me the opportunity to do one.

Hey Handcrack-

I recognize those double rainbows: that was a good day!

Hi Sherri-

I'm also potentially interested in commissioning something from you, although I don't have a specific theme in mind yet, or any idea of how to get the darn thing over here when it's done...

Do you have a web site or anything of the kind?

Gosh, thanks folks.
Steve deserves the kudos for the initial inspiration and for giving me and my muses free reign in the woodshop to see what came of it.
Way too fun!

Nita, in a nutshell--they're more or less big puzzles made up of different kinds of woods
(which gives the color variations), which are cut, sanded, and glued to a backing.
As for the specifics, everyone goes at it a slightly different way, but for me the process involves a lot of time "intuiting"
(ie--staring at the wood and the design figuring out how to bring it to life).
I draw up a design to start out, but I never follow it.
Just find it more natural to go with the flow.
I've never made the same thing twice(even when I tried).

Bill--I have no website. I find that serendipity has been the best way to market my stuff. I meet the neatest people this way. :)

Well, hmmm...

Can you give me an idea of the dimensions and weight of an average piece, and how fragile it might be? Just a ballpark idea is fine. Sounds like they might run pretty heavy, based on your comment about the UPS guy.

I'm thinking the trip to Tokyo for something like that might raise damage concerns...not to mention costing a bit; but with basic information, I can maybe do some investigating.

Awesome work, in any case - compliments!

Bill, I sent you an email w/more details, but in case others are curious: Steve's mural measures approx 4ft x 4ft and weighs 44lbs.

I'd compare the size and weight to that of a large foyer mirror. I was able carry it from my shop and hang it inside on my wall on my own.
(I think the packaging is what threw the UPS driver the curve--harder to pick up a big cardboard box).
