Happiegrrrl, don't let Piton give you a bad time. You are from the east coast I believe. The desert monsoon season can be something else.

You have to have lived in the desert or have spent time there to know just how fast (matter of minutes sometimes) the heavy downpours funnel down mountains and gullies and produce massive amounts of water. Smiles, Lynne

I do understand the funneling, flash flood aspect. What I apparently misunderstood was that they refer to 2 inches as measured by the scientific, rain-gathering, devices and not literally 2 inches standing water on a surface.

The reason I'd thought this was because we had a big rain last weekend, and on the forecast it had the same "2 inches and your car might be pulled in the current" warning. Here, it's difficult to imagine water getting channeled into a moving current with 2 inches of rain, but apparently it's so.

Nature - I heard that those geoducks are the oldest living animal in the world, and can be up to 140 years old!

What is that little guy? Don't tell me you're going to eat him....

Happie, If the water is moving swiftly enough, then 2 inches on a hard surface like a road can move a car, even completely off a road.

FISH COMPOUND IS SAVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After digging sand for 3 hours straight, I have single handedly saved the FISH Compound! The storm was something Noah himself would have got snail-eye even contemplating..... the "easement" out back was a raging torrent of debris and water that threatened every inch of fence for 200ft...... SAVED! The house next door (Jaybros?) was washing sand and effluvium into my yard at an alarming rate..... some deft shoveling redirected the flow away from the house..... SAVED! The overflowing street was quickly undermining the curbs and threatening the front fence and cactus beds.... some steel I-Beams and coping saved all that and the mailbox!!!!! OMG!!!!! It was like filming an episode of Deadliest Catch out there in 90degree weather!

After two hours of frenzied toiling I ran in and said, "Bluto! what the fuk are you doing!!!!! Help out!!!!!" He grabbed a cereal bowl and put it under a drip in the shop and then went back to Facebook.......

As for the other houses, it is true I had to ditch the car.... and brave a swollen river of a road complete with boulders rolling down the street and haystack sized standing waves..... almost took me off my feet as I used a shovel as an avalanche probe out in front of me to see if there was still asphalt under the water...... Then I saved two more houses..... Many roads were closed and the sand plows are working overtime.... I made it back home, ate some chubs, had two beers, and then called my new Physical Fix_it Guru, Ron about the pain in my shoveling shoulder...... he said I was fukked and to drink more beer and call him in a month! Kick asssss! Doc, you RULE!

Here are some pics that are not of the event, but recreations:

PMB, happy.... that was from a few years back. I had always wanted to have a "live" tank for the sashimi. Not sure where Russ and Sooze picked up that prehistoric monster but it tasted like a combo of Fugu and Ikura.

OMG, Guess WBraun is not needed. Sir Russ has saved the entire desert. Should be a storm out there every week to keep the life laugh factor above 50%.

So where the heck was Blitzo ?

And here I thought fish liked water, and swimming... Oh well, perhaps the fish in Joshua Tree have evolved in a different direction.

It's usually +5 degrees and raining here from November to March, when you're enjoying lovely sunshine down south. So I'm pleased to report that we had a lovely sunny warm day here, with more forecast.

Though most Canucks are quite familiar with the use of a shovel to dig oneself out.
