Nearing the steepest (about 25 degrees) section of the aptly named Dreaded Hill start to the time trial. The singletrack downhill sections are a bit more fun.

Base of Great Trango, 1992. First time to 16,000 feet. Shortly after just missing by minutes getting swept away by a giant avalanche in Ali Baba’s Couloir. Didn’t sleep the night before and carried too big of a load up the couloir starting at 2 a.m. Sunburnt as hell. Wondering WTF!

Smiley face on Temple Crag in the rain...10 years ago
2 or 3 pitches later, and past all the technical climbing, we rapped off into a side canyon due to lightning.
In Alaska prepping for a fun job above.
On that fun job above.

Not me (I was taking the pic), and most of the type II was over, but it was quite the trip - climb up Rainier via Success Cleaver, Ski down the Emmon's Glacier, and paddle down the White River - we planned to make it back to our stashed bikes to return to the cars, but things didn't quite go as planned...

MarkWestman, great stuff. The "it was fun after it was over," stuff. And maybe not then, either.

Wish I had a camera along for most of my Type 2’s.
This was Don the morning after a -20 bivy. The look on his face belies the fact he couldn’t
feel his toes. I was awake all night wiggling mine and I was irate that he was stacking Z’s.
He recovered in about a month without any lasting effects as far as I know but he gave up
winter climbing, at least with me.

Chilkoot Pass, AK. Freezing rain blowing 40 mph up the Golden Staircase. No rain gear could withstand it. But we still broke out the beer at the top and toasted the adventure!
