^^^ Not me. What has Trump done? Rose did it. The off field persona? Don't know enough about who Rose was off the field, nor do I care from a baseball perspective.
Just looking at Rose from a stats perspective. Excluding my own bias, conjectures, and past dislikes.
Yes, I get why the betting and subsequent denial/attitude get pulled in as well.

Pete Rose violated the ultimate professional sports no-no. He bet on his own sport, and although he likely never bet against his own team, if he bet on his own team that is equally corrupting...
If you don't understand why, you don't understand sports gambling...
Because he wouldn't have bet on ALL of his own team's games, only on those games where he liked the "price." (You do know you don't bet on baseball games in terms of straight win-lose, right? You bet on them with a "price", ie with odds like 2-1, except that baseball prices almost never rise that high, but you get the point.)
And that decision would have been observed by his bookies, who would have promptly chosen to bet on those games, too. And would have bet against Charlie Hustle's teams when Rose chose not to bet.
And Charlie would have played a little harder in games where he had money on the line.
The reason Rose accepted the lifetime ban is also obvious—he knew the evidence against him and knew he wouldn't have survived an open-court trial.
(I have some credibility in this regard--some of the proceeds of the numbers racket my dear departed dad ran at his bars are in a very well funded 529 plan that is going to pay for my son's college education.)

Not in my mind. Charlie Hustle couldn’t stand losing. He was such a fierce competitor I could see him betting against his team and then busting his ass to make sure he lost the bet.

Did you read the rest of the post? That's the important point.
What gamblers want is an edge.
The information of what games Rose chose to bet on—or not bet on—even if he was betting on his own team was exactly the sort of "edge" a professional gambler is looking for.
Super corrupting.

I remember when Rose first got banned, the joke here was that he was moving to Seattle. Said he wanted to get as far from professional baseball as possible.

RIP Oscar Gamble.
17 years in the majors, 200 homers, 666 RBIs, turned 10 double plays as an outfielder, not a bad run.
Best hair in baseball.

The Cubs just shot themselves in the foot. $126 million to Darvish? 6 years?

Dodgers Update:
Matt Kemp for Ryan Braun??? In the works??
hmmmmm.... not sure they need either one of those guys, especially that liar juicer Braun.
Utley gets a new two year deal at the bargain price of 2 million.... damn! That is cheap. Standard market worth of the Silver Fox is at 10-17 mil. He must really like staying in baseball without testing the waters.

Braun would probably produce a bit more but the Dodgers need outfielders like they need
another hole in the head. I would think Braun has more trade value but then what do the
Dodgers have to throw in with Kemp to get him? Seems like a lose-lose deal.

Early reports have Tim Lincecum hitting 92-93 on the speed gun.
If the change in delivery hasn't messed with his changeup he should be on track and expect to be getting an offer. The write up said there was two dozen scouts there, so what else would they be expecting from him?
