A friend of the family's dad was at Fort Stevens ( mouth of the Columbia ) when it was shelled by a Japanese sub. No casualties or real damage, but the inhabitants of the fort were plenty irritated.

Wind tunnel

Gotthard Base Tunnel. For all you basketball fans, this has not only length and depth, but perhaps even an element of athleticism. It is rumoured, though not demonstrated, that the Jamaican Bobsled team piloted the first vehicle to traverse it.

Trial run only. No dogs were injured during its filming

The docent was a bit long-winded and we couldn't see any wind, but we sure felt it!
Wish you were here.

In keeping with the "wind" theme, you may be interested to know that SBD International is the only airport named after a type of flatulence.

Useful tidbit for above the equator (below the equator, you fall off the Earth).

F: Wind is an undeniably powerful elemental force that is to be respected, and harnessed.

Always the modernist perspective: “It’s natural, and we need to use it.”
