Ahhhh - a voice like chocolate, lyrics like ......

I saw him in concert knowing nothing about him . The next day I went out and bought all his albums - there were just three at the time.

I cna't decide if it is Late for the Sky or The Pretender that was my favorite album.

Caught between the longing for love
and the struggle for the legal tender
Where the sirens sing and the church bells ring
and the junk man pounds his fender
Where the veterans dream of the fight
fast asleep at the traffic light
And the children solemnly wait
for the ice cream vendor
Out into the cool of the evening
strolls the pretender
He knows that all his hopes and dreams
begin and end there

And now that my Dad is in his final days,

But daddy I want to let you know somehow
The things you said are so much clearer now
And I would turn the pages back but time will not allow

And one of my absolute favorite lines:

Let the disappointments pass let the laughter fill your glass
Let your illusions last until they shatter
Whatever you might hope to find
Among the thoughts that crowd your mind
There won't be many that ever really matter

Speaks to you at every phase of life.

I don't remember where I heard it, but I recall Zevon talking about how Jackson Browne had been a major help when he was struggling to get his life back together. Not only that, J.B. jams with David Lindley. Does it get any better that?

If we're speaking of Mr. Dave, they guy with the 8-ball gear shifter on his steel guitar, his song "Your old lady" is sung in a special key when I'm in the room.

But I suppose that's all for a different thread ...

As for Jackson Brown, I have this old DVD with Cat Stevens, James Taylor, and Jackson Browne on it. No, they're not singing together, each is doing a solo show at some BBC station series shindig or something (I forget the name of the thing off hand).

Man, those 70's! And man, those Brits!! And man, does Jackson Browne ever give a crazy-assed cool performance!

Like us all you want the very best of life
A car, a house, a neighborhood that's nice
With flowers and trees and lots of little kids around
Where public schools aren't breeding grounds
for vice

You say you're working harder than you ever have
You say you got two jobs and so's your wife
Living in the richest country in the world
Wouldn't you think you'd have a better life

If you lived in Norway
You'd be fine right now
Get sick there
You make the doctor wait
If you lived in Belgium
You could mediate
[Flemish/French debate]
Hey knock it off!
And the French fries are great
Hey!

Jesus Christ it stinks here high and low
The rich are getting richer
I should know
While we're going up
You're going down
And no one gives a sh#t but Jackson Browne

There's a famous saying someone famous said
As General Motors goes so go we all
Johnny Cougar's singing it's their country now
He'll be singing for Toyota by the fall

That's not true

He's not like you
He's a......

Jesus Christ it stinks here low and high
Some get rich
And others just get by
Bono's off in Africa - he's never around
The country turns its lonely eyes to who?

Jackson Browne has been my favorite for so long and i play his cd's all the time....so much so.. that Timid hid both ~ Saturate be fore use and ~ Late for the Sky.....I still can't find them and he doesn't remember where he put them.

So Barbarian, ...could you possibly burn me a copy of Browne's cd's, Saturate before use, and ~ Late for the sky?....no big deal if you can't...

I've been a Jackson Browne fan too -----since the 1970's.

My fav album was likely Running on Empty.

Running on Empty is the fifth album by American singer-songwriter Jackson Browne. Released in 1977, the album reached #3 on the Billboard Pop Albums chart in 1978 and stayed on the charts for 65 weeks.

Speaking of the "innocent 70's" mentioned upthread, I must have listened to "Rosie" from that album 25 times before I finally comprehended the lyrics.

A beautiful ballad-----but there is more to the story.

Dingus, it's clear age has tarnished your taste in music.
