Jackson Browne stopped by the office this week and played a quick set. Afterword we chatted about our respective adventures in Joshua Tree back in the day. He used to go out to Barton Flats a lot. He signed an old photo from 1978 where I was wearing the same shirt as today! And yes that is K-man in the photo.

Late for the Sky...one of my favorites. Saw him with Bruce Springsteen in 1974 at the Main Point coffeehouse just outside Philly.
That's so cool.

Love it!
I like seeing J. B., --the decent, and progressive person that he is, not to mention talented. He's no doubt chuckling at what you guys were passing to and fro!

That's awesome Marty. Like Bob D, Late for the Sky has always been one of my top albums of all times. Just turned my son onto it 2 weeks ago and he loved it too. I always disliked the way he (alleged, not proven and she withdrew the charges like a good, well abused wife would) beat Darryl Hanna though. But if you listen to his music, you can hear refrains of those kinds of relationships. It just goes to show that often, our trust in "stars" be they of film or music, is misplaced.
"As Hannah's spokesman, Alan Nierob, told the press on the afternoon of Wednesday, Sept. 23: "She received serious injuries incurred during a domestic dispute with Browne for which she sought medical treatment."
"It's awful," says a close friend, given permission to speak to PEOPLE by the normally press-shy Hannah. According to the friend, Hannah suffered a black eye, a broken finger, swollen lips and body bruises at the hands of an out-of-control Browne. Says the source: "She's still in shock." "
Anyway, my fav off "Late For The Sky" is the song "For A Dancer", still loving this one: it seemed like we had it on auto repeat recently the weekend my son was down to visit:

That incident never happened and DH later confirmed it never happened. Police reports also state there was no assault by either party. Goggle it for more details.

For someone in their early twenties, in the early seventies (with the emergence of the "singer/songwriter" trend), his music was compelling to say the least. Emotionally, he seemed to hit every chord just right. The small group of friends I had at the time would quote him endlessly to express feelings of loves lost or in crisis, or just the vast unknown world that was opening up to us at that age. Lines like these are still stuck in my head;
Looking hard into your eyes
There was nobody I'd ever known
Such an empty surprise to feel so alone
Maybe people only ask you how you're doing
'Cause that's easier than letting on how little they could care
But when you know that you've got a real friend somewhere
Suddenly all the others are so much easier to bear
Say a prayer for the Pretender
Who started out so young and strong
Only to surrender
"Late For The Sky" has to be the albumn that anchors his entire career. Geffen sure knew how to pick em..
And Marty, that T-shirt is to die for. I would love to still have mine....

Great post and photos Marty.
I've always thought of Jackson Browne as a master story teller with a gift for music.
