What was the reason for changing out all the bulbs again?
Exactly. I mean, there was nothing fundamentally wrong with whale-oil lighting either.

When I was in college, I took an economics class and learned that another name for the orange stuff was "externality."
The externality comes from the failure to price electricity at marginal cost. Unfortunately, doing so violates core principles of those who control both major parties. Tea Partyers reflexively call any attempt to add the cost of pollution to the cost of a product a "tax," to which they are reflexively opposed. Let-them-eat-cake environmentalists, and dyed-in-the-wool regulators would never allow the public to choose how they cope with reducing pollution individually; they want to tell us all how to do it, since they believe they have a monopoly on intelligence.
Given political reality, the restrictions on incandescent bulbs may be the optimal solution, but if the electorate really knew economics, they'd insist on marginal cost pricing of fuel and electricity, and let the people decide individually what actions optimize their individual needs.

"Why don't we bring back tetraethyl lead, DDT, asbestos insulation and Freon while we're at it? "
So you compare my lightbulb to that? What is next? Running water within the house? It may contain toxic minerals. We should ban that sh-t! We just want everyone to conform and be healthy.

Not sure about that, but Tesla and Westinghouse were right when Edison was wrong.

In Taiwan and other spots of Asia I lived/visited the closets were fitted with a socket on the floor so a light bulb could keep the area dry and lit. Kept the mold and bugs down. There's a niche for a clever inventor to find a replacement.

I visited an elderly friend on Christmas eve...
The conversation then turned about how he can't find cheap bulbs for the few lamps he has in his house.
Cool story, bro. And I do mean STORY. Because you know, a $1 for a 23w CFL (100w incadescent equiv) is just outrageously expensive. It will likely outlive your elderly friend as a bonus.
Don't know what's more pitiful, you making up bs stories about imaginary friends, or Elezarian trying to perpetuate the same bs of unattainably expensive non-inc bulbs.
Hell, next thing you know, them pointy headed reg-a-you-laters will tell us we cain't put lead in the gasoline no more. The f*#kin DERP runs extra deep around here.

Jim, cuddle up around an 100 W incandescent bulb. That should warm you right up. :-)

Not sure about that, but Tesla and Westinghouse were right when Edison was wrong.
I still remember the existence of 120 volt AC/DC electronics, to accommodate those benighted (so to speak) parts of New York City stuck with Edison's direct current. Also, when the electric chair was introduced as an execution device, Edison insisted that the prisoner was not "electrocuted," but rather was "Westinghoused."
