I grew up with these two images. Greek Orthodox is pretty old. We can even claim to be older than the Catholics since, well... The Corinthians are Greeks. One of my Grandfathers came from there.

edit: answer, probably for the same reason that the OP's pic of BJ looks like a white man. some people (whoever painted it/and whoever cast ^ him) don't know sh#t.
Anastasia - like i said in my post on the first page of this thread, i believe He has black hair. but what difference does it really make? none.
i don't really believe JL's a hater. but these type of threads tend to stir up a lot of hate.

We all know what race Jesus was... A middle Eastern Jew. Nothing new in that information. I figure he was either the prophet or... One heck of a con man. Yes, I did say that. Now off I go prepping for my son's Baptism this week and yes, he will be attending Hebrew School too.

Just a quick note to say that the fat laughing buddha is not the same as the historical Siddharta Guatama Shakya, usually thought of as "the Buddha", born in Nepal.
Buddha is an honorific term, meaning an awakened one, not a family name, and anyone who is considered enlightened can be called "a Buddha". Thus, Jesus can also be referred to by Buddhists as a Buddha.
The fat Chinese Buddha is more along the lines of a saint. His personal name was Ho tei, Ho being his surname. Ho tei was a wandering Buddhist monk in China who carried a bag of sweets which he dispensed to children. What his actual weight was, we do not know, but Chinese folk tradition in a confusion of wisdom and intelligence, assumes anyone smart will find a lot of good Chinese food to eat. Thus even Shakya Buddha, who is depicted as thin in South Asia became quite substantial in China. Shakya Buddha's Chinese depictions are quite different however from Ho tei.
Ho tei has subsequently become thought of as the Chinese patron saint of good food and prosperity. His statue is often placed beside the cash register in Chinese restaurants for good business while the customers rub his fat stomach for good luck.
One can not help but draw parallels between the evolution of Ho tei the Buddhist monk, and Saint Nicholas, the Greek Orthodox monk. The real Saint Nicholas dispensed charity out of a bag he carried over his shoulder at night. Needy people would find money and food thrown over the walls of their courtyard the next morning. From that we eventually ended up with the fat jolly Santa Claus dispensing gifts to children thanks to his fast riding reindeer.
The moral I guess, is that there are similarly saintly people in all religions and geographic regions, and similar perversions of the original stories in various cultures as well.
