Finally! Some photos of the APOOPA SkiBASE event, what ever that stands for. It was a nutty day. Estimates were in the range of 60 jumps, but I only counted about twenty five.
Here's John Garrett throwing a back flip:
and Jesse coming out of one:
Snow boarders do it too, but it's more complicated (Ask Chris). Here's Mark Ridley:

Great shots Jerry! I have no idea how you managed to get the exposure so perfect(with dark misty background) on that one of the open canopy. I guess I need to take one of your classes someday.

The middle three images were hand held with the 500mm lens and Provia 400 film on Aperture priority. The other two were with the 24-85mm and Velvia 100 @ ISO 125 and +.7 compensation for the sky. That open canopy shot was about a third stop darker but I scanned it flat, opened it up a bit and put some contrast in. Your digi shots have way more latitude and look better at high ISO than the fast film. I have a shot of chris taken at almost exactly the same moment as yours. I'll have to scan it and put it up for comparison. I think your is sharper.
BTW, the guy in the yellow jacket throwing a front flip (your shot) is Max Kuszaj. He'd be psyched to get copies.

Tempted? Hell yeah. Don't think I'll do it though. They say it's not a good first jump! I live vicariously through the lens. My wife says jumping from airplanes and bridges are OK, cliffs are a no-go. Easier to ask forgiveness than permission though :-)

Another day at the Leap yesterday. Great temps. I shot some climbing and there was a planned jump in the afternoon. Where did all the snow go? Like three feet is gone. It was windy, so the jumpers delayed. Later when we hiked to the ramp, the exit was all melted out. We re-built it as fast as we could, but there were only four of us this time instead of thirty. It looked more like a little snow trail instead of a huge ramp we had on monday. John jumped after sunset. It was pretty dark and the LZ was gnarly. Holy Shmolly, dude has balls. Totally stuck it. He might have jumped again this morning, but I think it's done for the season. If you don't mind hiking in snow, The Leap is nice for climbing now with some wet seeps and cracks. You'll have it all to yourself.

Hey Guys! I know this is an older post but I just ran across your site.
Nice pics Dave. Jerry, that is an awesome composite of Tyler.
The APOOPA event was a huge success and well worth the drive from CO. It was great to finally meet you all.
Attached is a photo of Mark Ridley during his approach. I have more photos of the event posted at www.ChrisBazil.com under BASE Jumping. Stop by if you get a chance.
The event made Skydiving Magazines June issue. Its an excellent write up done by Shane McConkey and Robin Heid. The article begins on the cover and continues on pages 18 and 19.
APOOOOOOOOPA!!!
Have Fun!

This is sort of cool, but not as fun as arguing with a wall about climate change.
