Growing up in Ventura, everyone knows that working for Patagonia is one heck of a nice job.

As for prices... Well, you don't have to "buy" anything at full retail. I never have... Plus, you don't have to buy anything you dislike. I really don't know what all the fuss is about. I bought one of their jackets eight years ago and it's still new. I figure I have 20 years to break it down.

If you have evidence-based stories of why I oughtta get a steam of hate on for Patagonia, then do share . So far the haters are just anonymous words typed into the wind. Meaningless.

I don’t have any evidence based stories, but I get a steam going because I didn’t start a successful business and can’t just climb, surf and ski all the time…

Reading about the Patagonia return policy, I have a pilled out 30 year old pile jacket with a blown zipper, I wonder if I could take it back for a new one?

Send it back. If nothing else they will probably fix it.

i guess my disdain for patagonia is a bit personal, and i don't mind gossiping about it because i suspect others may have gone the same route.

yvon strikes a pretty high profile in let my people go surfing. in applying for work there more than once over a few years, i've come to think that the company is not quite the utopia he portrays. i think the key to becoming a part of and succeeding at patagonia is getting along very smoothly with yvon. he may want to take risks, but smart subordinates would never take risks with him. (i'm a risky guy, i admit.) consequently, i don't think the alleged freedom and creativity are there, and i think that can be seen in item after item aimed at fashion more than function. what the company lost sight of, perhaps when it closed down the smithy, is the beauty inherent in function.

Patagonia Bib's...Anyone's interested we're about to put up two pair(s) of ancient "AS NEW" patagonia pile bib's on eBay. These are the real deal and mint. Few decades old. Think fake fur, pilling etc. One is a size small one is size large both in navy. Both are "as new". They have never even been washed. We wore them for ice fishing in Wisconsin a couple of times.
Not much use here in South Carolina. Just pulled this site by accident.
Would be nice they got used for what they were intended. I can be reached at nautical@centurylink.net. Will try and get them up this weekend, Oct. 23-24th.
Thank's

That's basically a print of an artists original work. Not surprised it's that much. That being said, I'd never buy it. But the target audience for that style of shirt, is a fat rich white guy at a golf resort. The cut looks terrible, not designed for a fit dirtbag climber.

Stopped in to the Seattle store on Saturday. Walking down 1st, about 80% of everybody had a Patagonia label showing. I showed my 15-yo daughter the Grade VII parka. Hooded down, baffled, the works. Greatest parka I've ever seen. $999. She thought this was outrageous. I explained that even BITD, such parkas were at least a weeks' wage or more. My Asolo tele boots were $160 in 1983, and my 2-week paycheck was around $400 or less.

My Patagonia wardrobe consists of two fleece vests and three long sleeve fleeces, all bought at thrift stores, in great condition, total outlay <$30, and one short sleeve t-shirt I got on clearance for $17.

Their site's not down. . . this thread is 7 years old.

Sure, bring logic to a forum? Have you lost your mind?

Sure wish they would bring back the rugby shirts. Loved those puppies.

Wore a set of capilene midweights today that I bought in 1987. Bought off the rack, I'm probably averaging pennies per wearing and they'll last another 30 years. The smell ain't getting any better though after I work up a good sweat.

I've had a lot of Patagonia clothing over the years. Pricey, well made, durable. Money well spent.

Man, I still have my first Patagonia pieces.. . a friction belt I bought from the Pacific Mountaineer and a capilene paddling shirt I bought for biking on my first pro-deal at Sonora Mountaineering. They are going on 30 yrs. and still kicking. Plus, I respect the sh#t out Yvon and what the company does like the Bear's Ears response etc. Hell, I even dirt bike and can't NOT respect the company!!!

I wear a pair of Patagonia mid-weight capilene base layers several days a week, that I bought for cheap at Real Cheap Sports at their annual sale back in the mid nineties. They still look almost new despite a ton of use. My office is cold today, and I'm wearing an old pile jacket that I got in the late eighties. It shows more wear, but is still warm. Patagonia's actual outdoor gear really holds up. Marmot is close, but they aren't exactly cheap. I don't mind that Patagonia charges a lot for the fashion wear. Their sustainable sourcing does cost money, and it's easy enough to not buy it.
