I'm out of the office a bit, but will do a detail in later today
did you try my link to the interactive google map? you can zoom pan etc.
Didn't see any other lands in the area beyond BLM and Navy, which had a unit name...I'll take a second look after a bit.

TK, Thanks!
All,
It turns out that according to the LA times The Little Lake Ranch Gun Club is a hunting club, made up mostly of Southern California doctors, lawyers and business owners .
Great so that's who doesn't want people in the desert - WTF!

A couple of years ago I encountered a "Private Property No Tresspassing" sign south of the main area on the way toward Scott's Bluff and we respected it. The next day we were harrassed from a distance (down canyon) while climbing at the main area (Twilight of The Gods etc.,) but we just ignored them and they left.
Next visit the sign was gone and we climbed a bit at Scott's Bluff without interference.
It would be nice to get this straightened out. I'm going to order up the right BLM map, and if it shows the area to be public I'll carry it there with me. Not concealed of course... :-)

Unfortunately, I'm not able to determine the ownership of the private lands. The data associated with that private parcel is as follows:
OBJECTID_1 3159
OBJECTID 3173
Inyo_Zonin OS-40
Zoning_S OS-40
GP OSR
PIN 037-230-17
paddress1 LITTLE LAKE
pcity LITTLE LAKE
taxrate 10
taxyear 0
taxcode 059010
lottype FEE LAND
lotsqfeet 0
lotacres 1019.01
assessyear 2008
township 283 PRIVATE RECREATION
Shape_Length 45708.992359
Shape_Area 33091412.52686
this data came from:
http://gis.mono.ca.gov/InyoPV/
The data showing the public vs private is from:
http://gis.mono.ca.gov/data.asp
and that particular layer("CA_OwnershipBlocks_GAP") hasn't been updated since 7/20/2009, so there may have been some changes...
once again, the link to view this on an interactive google earth/map link:

Just spoke to someone (name withheld to protect the innocent) at the Ridgecrest BLM office. She said it was BLM land and she had never heard anything else. Then I gave her the story. She then said I could verify with one of the guys who deals with that campground (CYA move). And then transferred me to his voice-mail. Bottom line first words out of the BLM's mouth was our land. She said the private land was a few miles from fossil falls....The drama continues.

No problem Kev, just trying to display the available data...though from what you heard at the BLM office, there might be some discrepancies between what's mapped and what is truth.
Hard for me to say...though I do have some doubts about the data, due to the date, lack of metadata*, and that the available GIS parcel data for Inyo county appears to be maintained by Mono County.
*method of creation, details on where the data came from etc
looks like you'll have to see what the BLM maps look like...
glad you like the site btw!
Cheers

Rox, it is a relatively newer date, but from what kev wrote, it led me to consider that there may have been changes over the last year not reflected in this data.
That doesn't seem to jive with the new BLM sign there (and map) and a pay BLM campground, etc.

Just got off the phone with the guy in the know at the BLM. A survey was done recently apparently. Scotts is prolly off blm land. The blm guy didn't know it by that name but seemed to think by my description that it was not on BLM land. HOWEVER most if not all of the lower tier in the book is on (according to him). BLM land DOES go onto the lower tier. Not sure what good this does to know this but that's the case....

The Chief, you said south of the fenced area... Fossil Falls proper is north of the ponds, no?
Kev, you came in from the north by the parking opposite from the red mtn quarry, yes?

I just got off the phone with the Sheriff as well. The lower fossil falls is fine to climb at. It still unclear about Scotts....

Munge, I took the trail from the BLM day use parking area to upper fossil falls and 3rd classed in from the northwest to the lower falls, my partner 3rd classed in from northeast. When we left we 3rd classed directly up the center. NO FENCE ANYWHERE.

Chief, do you have the Vernon's guidebook? It's in there.
If not here is the direct way. From upper falls hike down to lower falls. From lower falls continue for 5-10 minutes following a cliff band on the left until you see anchors. That's Scott's Bluff. I emailed Loomis about somethng else and haven't heard back but suspect he's off climbing. If I don't hear back I let the other one know....

Chief,
I just emailed you about this in detail...But the short version is that he identified himself as the caretaker of some duck hunting ranch (the little lake ranch or something like that). And they have NO fence in the gorge (or if they do we hadn't come to it yet).

Chief
Daily access to Scotts and the entire climbing area North to South east of and along the main Power Line is allowable per my buddy who is the Asst Dist Super down in Bishop for the LADWP. - then we were 100% legit. I wondered if that was LADWP land....

It is LADWP/BLM Property and you were legit!
So does this mean we can (leagally) pack heat on a BLM trail and tell this f*#ker to go hump himself????
Obviously this is wrong as a gun owner, and will only escalate the issue with a fuktard like the one encountered. But a boy can dream, can't he????
It's totally irrresonsible to threaten someone on an unposted property. Especially with a f*#king gun! As a gun owner, you have serious responsibilities to be cool. Unless your life is obviously threatened on your own property, or someone threatens you with deadly force, you HAVE NO RIGHT!!! Back off!
The Sheriff should remind this dude of the laws.
