Mick,
hope everything works out OK, but while I am no fan of George Bush sometimes throwing up has less to do with tact than falling does with skill.
Shlt happens.
Glad to hear that this may end well for those involved. Too often that is not the case.
Those Yosemite SAR guys are something, huh?

Good to hear.
Bummer if that's what happened. Getting dizzy on a mantel would suck. I blacked out on a climb because I wasn't easting much. Just hung on piece and started dreaming. Thank you belayer guy whose name I don't remember.

Thank you very much Mick for the update. What a relief to hear that he is doing so well. One of my old climbing partners in France (Grasse) has a friend out here doing El Cap, so I wondered who it was who fell. The best news is that he is doing great.
If anyone really wants to discuss healthcare issues between countries, start another thread and I'll contribute.

We had been climbing around the base of El Cap on Thurs. as the weather was down right warm that day. Came back down to the bridge around 4:00 pm just before Tom Left and at that time all was seemed to be going well with the teams up on the route. We had spotted them through the scope earlier in the day before we went up to the base. Came back on Fri. and Tom told us the news. Had it occurred Fri. night it would have been a very cold experience for all as the weather really had turned. Just down right artic. Had the pleasure of meeting Jeff Webb this last week. We as climbers are very lucky to have people such as him around as well as all of YOSAR and SAR they do a great Job.

Tom posted a corrected description of the accident on his website.
He was aiding the crack on the main wall behind the spire and a poorly placed cam pulled (he did not fall due to dizziness).
http://www.elcapreport.com/content/elcap-report-52110
"Yesterday, late in the evening, a 48 year old French climber fell 65 ft. into the Alcove below ElCap Spire. I talked to Stefan Bruner, who was on the spire at the time of the accident. He relates the following account. The French climber was aiding the crack on the wall behind the spire and had back cleaned some of the pieces. As the climber reached the level of the top of the spire he placed a #3 cam which Stefan says was 95% open. As the climber leaned over to reach for the spire the piece pulled and he fell over backwards. Stefan said he was looking the man in the face and half his torso was above the level of the ledge. He fell down the chinmey, a lower piece partially broke his fall but the rope stretch caused him to bang his head on the side wall, did not completely arrest his fall and he hit the deck with a thud. He was severely injured with a lot of blood coming from him. He had broken several ribs too. The five other climbers at the Alcove did what they could for him, but he did not regain conscious. In the morning YOSAR mounted a full rescue with a team at the top and choppers ready to fly to the Spire to do an extraction."
Incidentally, when he says "#3 cam", I don't think it was a #3 Camalot. The crack is about 1" there as I recall, so maybe a #3 Metolius TCU or similar.

Oh, fantastic news. I have been around serious head injuries, and it isn't pleasant. I assume that with the speed he is recovering, he will be OK. Sure hope so.
