Nice you guys. That's more filled in than when I've done it. Maybe less filled in is better for pro?

ho crud, the jokes on me I thought this was a juan thread, but that musta been the spoof.

well done Kia

I'm pumped for ya! That's one of those ethereal routes, glibly mentioned in a rock and ice mini guide to ice in cali.

when does the weeping wall come into shape? that's what I want to know!

Wow....that's some thick sh*te...it's been years since there was that much ice on Tahquitz. Nice work!

"We still on for Snow Creek/N. Face of S.J. in February or March?"

You'd be better off to wait until late March at the earliest- hit it too early, and Snow Creek is just a slog-a-thon through lots of unconsolidated mashed potatoes: good for steep skiing, but not-so-good for climbing. It is looking real thick these days, though- the 'snow tongue' is the lowest it's been in a long time, very easily burying the massive chockstone about midway up. Even in good conditions, it won't be like what you experienced on Tahquitz- Snow Creek is mostly 35-45 degree snow- no screws (or pro, for that matter) necessary.

Edit: Thanks Kia for the motivation via the internet!

We got out this weekend (sunday) after seeing Kia's video and the ice was pretty killer. Thin in spots and nothing super thick, but it was a blast. We saw another team climbing the left side of the Northwest Face and we climbed the right side. Everyone rapped off below the headwall, where the ice got real then and sketchy.

Tahquitz from the road
Slogging up the last bit of the approach. We approached via Lunch Rock since neither of us had done the north face approach before. It wasn't too bad since we followed other peoples' post holes
The Trough area. Looked cool and the guy at Nomad's said someone did it this last week

Ice!
Tim leading off on the first pitch. We simuled about 200' then belayed the next 200'
Tim above the first belay station
Simuling under Tim while he pushes on up higher.

Jordan, only the dreaded little red x for your image.

Edit: That fixed it nicely!

Nice job. Was that an in situ, fixed pin at your anchor?

AH HA!!!!

Good to see others getting on it, nice Jordan!!

Shaun and I went again last Friday and climbed the Uneventful and found it more challenging. We went down our own tracks from last week and were wondering why no one else had gone up. Good to see you guys got up.

More precip and below freezing temps on the way!! Get some while you can!

I'm not able to see the video, though the other pics are
probably the most snow I have seen on the N. Face side.
What route was done? There is quite a few there on that
frequent rock fall side.

Is it gonna start falling apart now? It's starting to warm up! I'm headed out tomorrow for one last blast while it's in! Hopefully it's been beefing up all week!

Be sure to report back with your findings.

It's supposed to be in the 70's along the coast, and into the 80's in the deserts by the weekend...better get started early tomorrow morning!
