Surfing can be the best of times, and the worst of times.
Looking better.... somewhere in South America. Why is no one on those waves you ask? Because we were the only ones there and hadn't paddled out yet. Top of the point is about a MILE from where the picture was taken.

Fatty,
post edited, picture was taken from about a mile away. Head high, rides so long we'd get out of the water and walk back.

I heard some dude was placing razor blades on the nose of his board!
locals say he surfs over at "hollywood by the sea".
I'll wait till I can surf both the wave and Rincon to go drop in on him.

Lunada Bay,
This is the most Local bullshit best big wave place in SO CAL It could be 14-18 feet this weekend GOOD LUCK!!!!!!
Description
L.A.'s little-known premier big-wave spot. Also home of the most notorious localism the city has to offer. There have been threats, slashed tires, rocks thrown, fist fights and even drive-by noogies. Clashes with outsiders during the '90s were brought to national attention when a TV news crew and others were harassed and assaulted. Lawsuits ensued, and now the area is closely watched by the Palos Verdes sheriff. Behind all that is a big-wave spot that's on a scale with small Todos Santos or Sunset Beach in Hawaii. Takes north and west winter swells up to 20 feet and pitches a beautiful walled right that takes you through a boiling boulder-riddled lineup. With more north in the swell, a few daredevils will raise the stakes by taking off at a spot called Truck Drivers, a few hundred yards behind the main peak. Another lovely facet is the rip -- on large swells it pulls you toward the pocket and the rocks. The place really doesn't wake up till 6 feet and over, and at that size, the alpha males are out in force. To their credit, the local crew has kept alive the old surfing tradition of cute nicknames, such as "Knothead," "T-Bone" and "Goober." So, if you paddle out, and someone yells, "Hey, Dickwad," consider yourself in! Most surfers in the area seem to avoid the hassle of surfing here, but the few who have infiltrated recommend a late morning weekday -- after the guards have gone off to watch "Teletubbies".
--
Drowning, getting pushed into the rocks, walking down the trail with locals throwing rocks down on you. Oh yeah...the local police don't seem to care.

While Lunada Bay is the worst, all of Palos Verdes is like that. I was lucky enough to grow up on the edge of PV, so was sort of accepted there most of the time. But Hollywood-by-the-Sea is the only other place in CA that I surfed that had that bad a vibe.
As for Da Hui, it's a group of thugs with a clothing line. What more could one ask for?

Brunosafari, that was decades ago, scene has most likely changed there now. I go to the same beach now with my family and it's way different. Back then, me and my body surfing buddy would get hassled at most beaches, for porposing waves from the surfers, we were young and dumb and probably deserved it. surf up here in so cal right now!
Peace

I am afraid a local's idea of "respect" is basically staying out the water when the swell rolls in. And that ain't going to happen.

Unless these ass-holes bought the ocean, it's NOT "their" place. It belongs to all of us equally.
I'd rather not show respect to those people, I'm OK with fighting instead.

LEB, sometimes you make me laugh. Haven't you pulled this logic out before on other treads. Since animals do it, its only natural (admirable?) that humans do it too.
You really don't think there is a difference between an animal and a human? Do Chimps or frogs send men and treasure to Haiti to help others? Do they study philosophy and theology? Do they live - mostly peacefully - in communities of millions of individuals?
Hyenas eat their young. Black widows kill their mates after their business is done. Do we really want to take our lessons from the "natural world"?
Your logic would suggest that all human ethics are for not and we should follow the way of the jungle. But I don't think you really believe that. There IS a place for "shoulds" and "shouldn'ts" in this world and those ideals come from a part of the human heart, and intelligence and culture that animals don't have.
