So sorry for you and Lady. She was a great dog! Our own Django is on that path. Okay for now, but we take it one day at a time.

Thanks for the thoughts. I've seen pictures of Django. He's a good'un. I hope he's around a while yet.
Lady was a rescue and had been abused. That missing canine was from getting kicked. That she turned out so sweet was something of a miracle.
Woe to the boyfriend who tried to wrestle with the girls on the couch.
It went as well as it could for her. Lady and I got a last little walk to sniff the neighbor's flowers, which she did most days when things were blooming. While she was there it started pouring, and people ran out of the house with umbrellas to Keep her dry while she shuffled back. Her pain didn't stop her from her routines.
What they didn't know was that her favorite thing was getting towelled off with a giant towel that covered her and getting brushed when she got caught in the rain on our walks, so we did that.
In the end, 15 people who knew her and Bob came over to pay respects and comfort her. She greeted every one like she always does. That last picture from a couple days ago was her standard greeting. It often made people laugh on the street.
When it was time people gathered around and all petted her while the sedative took hold.
She ended her life with mom and the younger daughter petting her and hearing the voice of older daughter on skype, which she recognized on calls home. This picture should be disturbing, but it wasn't.
Dogs have a fault that they don't live long enough. In her case, it was her only fault.

Those two make me smile.
Lady in happier times.
I found an old video taken on a cheap flip phone of the first time Lady was exposed to water at a beach on the Columbia river. She had a heavy coat, so in hot weather I either had to go early in the morning with her or find a way to cool her down. She was 8 here.
She never got her tail wet in all our trips.
