Saw this thing at Shaver Lake last year. Not sure if it's a tractor.
I've been pricing tractors lately, could really use one, but damn they're expensive. They seem to hold their value from new, like, forever.
A used compact tractor is what I'd pay for a car!

When I replaced the mower-deck drive belt, dag nabbit.
Mechanical tinkering without a tool shed or work bench

If you like old farm stuff, you will want to find your way to Elk City, Oklahoma, and visit the Farm and Ranch museum, which is part of the Route 66 museum. http://visitelkcity.com/museums.aspx#oldtown
That is where the above images were shot. The cool thing I found was that a LOT of the meta parts were manufactured in not only Wisconsin, where I grew up, but very near to where I grew up.

"Those Ford tractors are all over the south. Hardly ever see one in California. Why is that?" asks DMT.
I guess you haven't traveled in the "Ford Belt" near Le Grand all that much. They are quite common, and these belong to one die-hard Ford fan.

^ Nice.
I have thought about getting something to that. But a compact kubota or similar can also run a bush hog type mower. Post hole digger. Etc. and get in between trees. And will likely need less repairs. I just need an extra $20k+ lying around.

So where is this tractor museum, DMT?
Things sure look great when folks keep things dusted and painted and well-lit. The two museums here, Bright's Pioneer Museum and Charley's Ag Museum are both poorly-lit and dusty as heck and over-crowded and not kept up or repainted. But they's free, so...

Last year there was a cherry 30 hp Kubota that had been garaged and had less than 100 hrs on flea bay with back hoe, box pan and another attachment I'm forgetting that went for just over $20k. New the same rig would be $30k plus.
If we ever get a few acres to build a cabin on, I'm getting a tractor. Still have a fair bit of landscaping to do in the yard and am hoping to still have access to my buddies tractor this summer.

and this from a relatively "modern" overhead valve design. i bet you old-timers can tell me exactly what it came from. Note the design... 3 mains on a 4 cylinder. No counterweights on the crank. Shims between rods and caps (and between main caps as well). i plan to breath new life into her...
