It's difficult to see how they sell Socialism. Given the real time unraveling of the Socialist Paradise to our South.
An update from the Tienditas Bridge that connects Columbia with Venezuela. The Venezualan National Guard has placed dirt filled containers to block aid convoys.

Worth the read:
Indeed. Some good points that have been made elsewhere. I live in the darkest of blue, but my sense is, the Covington incident in particular, may have awakened people that don't normally vote. Exactly the kind of people that the pollsters missed in 2016.

Thanks Bad.
Plenty of valid reasons for supporting Trump. It's not all about racism and xenophobia.

Largely true, ontheedge, except that I would say that his core group (not everyone, but many or most) understand perfectly well his authoritarian impulses and thinly veiled racism and support it. No one is forcing them to cheer at his rallies when he talks about imposing controls on the media, nor is his characterization of white supremacists as fine people a deal breaker.
Edit: and, it should be a deal breaker for any decent American. No excuses for backing that piece of trash after that travesty. None.

Oh, come on now Norton you know it was all about the US being potentially wiped off the map due to HRC's emails. At least that is what I heard from family and folks in Bako.
Had a great chat with my 85yo uncle last weekend. He was a Fox news fanboy up until around the new year and the shutdown. He has the ability to be affected by humility and I am grateful. He did take little offense to my thanking him for looking objectively at the sitch. It's like all was good until 4-3 months ago. Anyway, he just said that it just doesn't add up if you step back for the Birdseye view. He was a Batt Chief in the fire Dept and was respected in the dept. You can't manage large complex incidents with beliefs, if'n ya know what I mean.

His supporters are too stupid
No, YOU are st00pid.
Trump is the perfect flunky to be controlled by the demented handlers that put him in Office.
The handlers you have no clue who they really are.
His public supporters are NOT his handlers.
You politard clowns are even dumber than Trump and are bunch of st00pid nutcases......

"There are just as many whacknut leftists as there are hardcore psycho Trumpists. And they have more in common than they'd like to admit. (For starters, that they are both ignorant of government workings and politics, and that they both have big f*#king mouths.)"
+1!
Let's find a President who is savvy about government workings and politics, and doesn't have a big f*#king mouth!

"I think AOC et al. may actually help Trump get re-elected."
How Trump is on track for a 2020 landslide
Economic models point to a Trump blowout in 2020. But a faltering economy or giant scandal could change everything.

President Donald Trump has a low approval rating. He is engaging in bitter Twitter wars and facing metastasizing investigations.
But if the election were held today, he’d likely ride to a second term in a huge landslide, according to multiple economic models with strong track records of picking presidential winners and losses.
Credit a strong U.S. economy featuring low unemployment, rising wages and low gas prices — along with the historic advantage held by incumbent presidents.
While Trump appears to be in a much stronger position than his approval rating and conventional Beltway wisdom might suggest, he also could wind up in trouble if the economy slows markedly between now and next fall, as many analysts predict it will.
And other legal bombshells could explode the current scenario. Trump’s party managed to lose the House in 2018 despite a strong economy. So the models could wind up wrong this time around.

Track records only work with "normal."
He's not normal (and not in a good way).

If what you are describing is moral dissonance, then yeah, I suppose that partially explains it.
Where is the tipping point where the middle of the road voting Republican will say, 'that's enough of this guy'?
Is there such a tipping point?

Dingus pretty much nails it. Kerry, McCain, Gore, Dole. All veterans that lost.
As far as Viet Nam goes, guys my age (70) are either draft dodgers or baby killers. Simply no middle ground. People are more comfortable with the draft dodgers.

Moose, Trump's dislike of McCain is much deeper than the issue of McCain's support of wars. Trump doesn't have a moral locus from which to be offended by such things, like you or I do.
Trump doesn't like McCain for very deep, base-level psychologic reasons: McCain stood up as a man in a way that Trump never could do, and that threatens Trump's very identity. That kind of threat tends to result in irrational lashing out from narcissistic personality disorders.
This said, I'm with you in respect to disagreeing with McCain's hawkish tendencies.
