What's the point of liberating these people if they just want to come here?

I don't WANT them to come here, but if they can be productive and have some repect for the country, they're welcome here IMO.

Germany has a little secret. It seems as though we can be quite thankful for 2 German operatives on the ground during the Iraq invasion that were relaying Iraqi positions in Baghdad and the Iraqi airport.

They were so close to some of the action they had to request special forces support instead of artillery or airstrikes. They had a third agent inside Centcom to retrieve/relay the info.

Interesting read. Thanks Germany!

Our son made the reports today.

edit:
In reference to the previous article:

He was also on the third heavy into Bagdad. The outgoing cargo was those brand new French Roland missiles.

A few years from now when the history is written, much of the conventional spew about Iraq will be revealed as false.

That's really proud, TGT. Who said C-130 crews can't save lives?

You must be a proud man. Congrats on a fine young man!

It is amazing how slanted our media is compared with those that report from the scene.

Congrats on your son TGT. You must be way proud!

TGT-
like it or not, those of us who (rightly) "oppose" this war do not "oppose" your son or his service, his effort, his sacrafice, etc.

re: history
depends on who writes it i guess-
just look at the bush administration, currently making a significant last ditch effort to write their own epilogue in the media

December 31, 2008 will officialy mark the end of the U.N.'s mandate for international forces in Iraq. This comes at the behest of the Iraqi govt. The U.S. has 'permission' to leave forces through 2011.

Interesting article, written by a British secretary of state for defense, regarding British involvement in Southern Iraq.

http://www.spectator.co.uk/the-magazine/features/3473466/our-departure-from-iraq-ends-a-dismal-period-in-our-military-history.thtml

This was linked by Michael Yon who commented that the Brits on the ground are badasses he would proudly walk into battle with...again.

But politics and spin have prevailed in Britain too.

F*#kin-a, I love these guys! 101st Airborne!!!

Dude gets 2 legs blown off, brain damage, unresponsive until one of his 'band of brothers' comes in and says, "Curahee".

I've said this before, but Petraus will go down in history as a great military leader, he is to be listened to and respected.

F*#king Badass!!!

Here's a report from Commander Crider who fought through the 'surge' in Iraq. By utilizing new (and older) counter-insurgency techniques they successfully pacified a region of Iraq.

In the .pdf below he outlines the techniques deployed. Pretty interesting.

I found it on Michael Yon's site.

Interesting (long) video of the "surge"

http://rantburg.com/poparticle.php?ID=290645&D=2010-02-16&SO=&HC=1

Petraus' counter-insurgency tactics were brilliant. Applicable now in Afghanistan as we see in Marjah.
