The $200 Tax Stamp is only for Federally controlled items (NFA Act 1934) like suppressors, machine guns, SBR's (short barreled rifles), grenade launchers etc.
It is not an import tax.
"Keep to mind "any sale" requires a $500.00 permit on top of
the $200.00 and manufacture a $1000.00 permit. Re-sale for
collectors value appears to be the only valid sale otherwise
depreciation makes them worthless business wise."
None of that applies to a semi automatic AK, not even in Kalifornia.

I kind of wonder if sawin knew there were other pages...?
We just went over 250 posts.
I say the gun nuts should give HD a run for its money by continuing to prattle on; nothing in particular, favorite guns, ammo prices, blowing sh#t up, etc.

So I have about a zillion more rounds through handguns than rifles in my time and not a lot of experience with scopes. I have hunted in light rain, snow and drizel but never really burned whole lot of scoped rifle ammo in bad weather.
A few days ago I drive to the range with my nice new steel targets. A 4 3/8ths" round plate 1/2 in thick welded to a base plate and a nice rectangle on a base 3-3/16ths X 7" also 1/2" thick. I am half way to the range and the sky just opens up. I get there and it poaring hard and allmost sleeting. I set the targets up @ 95m as long a shot as I can reasonably get at this dinky little range, slog back through the mud, plop down prone in the mud and I can't see a darn thing through the scope. there is so much water on the front and back elements that it is just a BLUR.. I did have some paper towles so I could sort of wipe the lenses clean and get off 2 shots before the targets completly dissapeared.. any cheap easy fixes for this? You can use cover but you still get hosed in 10 or 15 seconds after you remove them....
I did mannage to amuse myself ringing the gongs for half an hour untill I started going hypothermic and my 3 sheets of paper towle disintigrated ;)

For the objective lens you could use a lens shade, normally used for sun glare but I would think that it would help a lot.
For the eye piece side, wear a wide brimmed hat, like a boonie hat.

general question - how long do you think leaving magazines fully loaded will take to wear the spring down ?
i keep rolling mine every so often to another clip, just so there's one hot one around...or is this a non - issue...

2 folding sawhorses
a 4'x 3' plywood "table"
8-10 1"x2"x6'
a bag of quick clamps
a 6'x8' tarp
Voila; shooting shelter for sun or rain
(Pagan has a pic)
note; to avoid a "Mary Poppins" in the event of wind add guy lines and stakes

I have never had an issue with my shooting star 1911 mags and allways keep them fully loaded w/8 rnds. I do rotate them ocasionaly but most likly not often enough to really do much?? All my other high capacity mags I never fully load. It may say 20rnds on the package but to me that reads as 18 rnds. 30rnds = a 28rnd clip in my book. I kept 9 rnds in the 10rnd stock mag of my SKS for 16 yrs with no negative efects that I was aware of??? I only used AR mags (FN 5.56) for a few years so not suer about those?? Just got three 18 rnd Tapco mags for the SKS and have them full. Not suer if this is a good idea w/ these mags?????

Piton_Ron,
no I was not aware within ST or what pages?
My preference was 7.62*39 over the 223's as they
could also hunt deer legally in CA. due to the larger
30 caliber and seemed to have better accuracy out of
the box.
Used ones seem to be about $450.00 today and the
under depreciated $200.00 days are gone. They can
be purchased in CA. regardless of the alleged Bans
and keep to mind the codes noted are nation wide
not state to state differentiating laws.

You mean I tell the truth and don't lay in the mud (much).
I like the Sigg at the ready and the "Maestri can" for blowing dust out of the actions.

The mud ain't nessicairly smarter but it may be usefull practice in case you do get caught out in the rain without your tent. Heck I have a 10x10 EZ UP that I could set up if I wanted to stay dry.

Honestly I am too lazy for a set up like that. I generaly head out wth what I can carry on my person.
Are the ARs /M4s so sensitive that you need to carry compressed air??

Well, if so Ron, you guys are shooting yourselves in the foot by posting the big pictures:-). Gets too slow and complicated to keep scrolling back and forth to read text, folks will drift elsewhere.
I wanted to take the new rifle out this weekend but it's gonna be wet and raining all weekend here and the area I'd like to shoot is still snowed in. Have fun in the desert: looks good there.

I read the whole thread except the politics, because that is like arguing religion, nothing good ever seems to come from it.
Russian SKS
Paid $120 out the door, no waiting, no ID.
500 Ea. Russian hollow point- $79
Good stuff, even though it is old.
Stripper clips, of which I saw none of in the pics, are extra.
Deadly. Very efficient round.
A pleasure to shoot.
Very flat out to 500 yards.
Easy recoil.
Hitting one foot boulders consistently at 300 yards is a piece of cake, even with the iron sights.
Close range damage is awesome.
Try shooting an Alhambra water jug sometime.
Wear your raincoat.
Mostly used for plinking. I hope.

Shak, No magic button. I sold it for Big dough back in 92 and bought the SKS for $119.00 The Guy I bought the FNC from sold it because it has no decent place to mount a scope. He ended up w/ a Car15
