Vietnam was a perfect example of why military adventurism for political purposes is lousy policy. And it's more than a little pathetic we have to learn that lesson all over again.
Hey Ron, just how do you win a war with N Korea or Iran without resorting to nukes - please, do tell - really, I'm all ears...

We're tied to Iraq and Afghanistan just like we were to Vietnam. When we going to figure out that you can waste trillions of dollars and thousands of lives on and on, and on and on?
Add Iran and NK? no thanks. Our economy already sucks.
Looking at the history of most of those trouble spots, it's clear that western colonialism and violent meddling led to the problems that are now blowback to us. Why can't we learn?
Peace

Ron, You're spraying buckshot all over the place now. First it was invade Iran and NK, now it's halt trade with China? Might not be a bad plan if we can stomach being forced to declare bankruptcy as a country since they'll surely call in all our debt.
Wait, I thought we were talking about Iran and NK. Now we're at economic war with China? Kickass! Let's take 'em all on.
And on the topic of "the great wars" where we really kicked ass and showed them. I thought that was what we're trying to do in Iraq and Afghanistan. Are we there yet?

Good question. I'm not sure anyone knows what would happen. Just what we need, another massive unknown/uncontrolable thrown into the mix.
On a strictly personal note, I think it's only fair that if the gov't gets a clean slate, I should too. Wipe out my mortgage and let's all start fresh.

...China is THE KEY player...
SCORE ONE FOR RON! Ron actually gets one right this time. And China being the big kahuna is why Islam as a whole is largely irrelevant as a strategic threat.
So, your plans for winning wars with Iran and NKorea, and how to go about shutting down trade with China? Still all ears...

I want to write something pertinent to this thread, but I don't know...
...I know that my nephew/godson is in Afghanistan with his Marine unit. Should he be there, in harm's way? He chose to be a Marine. But I do not support this conflict politically, Bush (among others, Taliban, etc) made the mess and I fear that Obama can't clean it up.
But I do support the troops, both US and NATO, and also hope that they and innocent civilians are not killed or maimed. A HUGE HOPE.
I 'like' it DMT, about those in the rear shouting charge and those in the front line dying, how true. My nephew is in the front line, and he is a good kid. I hope he and the others return safely and remain good kids.
I also know that down through the years, people/empires such as Alexander the Great, The British and the Russians couldn't get to grips with Afghanistan. What was it about land wars in Asia?
