I'm an Obama supporter, for sure. But in this latest dustup, I think many of McChrystal's points ARE valid. It would be a shame to lose him over this.

I agree.

Next question. Who'd be a better prez, Stanley or Stanley's son?

There are plenty of perfectly valid criticisms of Obama. The General seems to be running a fairly unprofessional kitchen, however. His opinion is not moot, it's important. He needs to conduct himself with a lot more candor if he wants it to continue to be important.

Loose lips sink ships.

But hopefully he won't lose his job. Apparently it was less about policy, policy differences, and more about leadership, professionalism, conduct in the presence of media.

He was wrong in telling the press. There are other channels he could have used.

Generals almost always have a good point.

He's still a general, and he f'd up.

He had a Patton moment, and so did his staff.

The Runaway General, in it's complete form.

Obama should be fired too, listen to John Voigt.

Oh yes, I'm waiting for John Voigt to tell me what to do about our president. That's your president too Fat.

I thought you were the guy that wanted only the best, and the most success for any US president.

Too bad we didn't manage to fire your boy George, this mess wouldn't be so big.

George, or any US prez, can't just jump into the Israel can do whatever it wants boat, and you know that.

I hope Obama wouldn't fire him for "loose lips". Mr. President has less tact than any president I could remember. He's successfully taught my son to drink, smoke, and swear. Thanks for being a role model. Not to say I don't drink occasionally, every once in a while smoke my pipe, and let a loose word out when I smash my finger, but I'm not the leader of the free world. I sure as heck am not doing it on CNN. This is completely disregarding the verbal faux pas that Mr. Biden has dropped in the past year or so.
It's all a bummer really...big bummer. Not defending anyone's actions, just saying...

Mcchrystal is a sack of sh#t...

You're really a fool, Reilly. Think about what he's done, and then what he actually said to the reporter.

You disappoint, Reilly.

Reilly is partly or mostly referring to the cover-up of the friendly fire incident with the football star.

And policy is one thing, but being present while subordinates refer to the vice-president as "Bite me" without remark is pretty lame.

I mean, if you are vice-president of microsoft and you're talking to Rolling Stone and call Bill Gates something like that, you're not for long. How much more so when in the service that has a chain of command where people follow orders and die. Doubt McChrystal would take that from his own captions referring to him for one minute.

How much has this guy done? We're still losing in Afghanistan and with more deaths too than ever...even after getting those troops he asked for.

It's a losing battle, just like the soviets. You can't rule stone age people who are tough as nails with computers or smart bombs. The Soviets used way more resources and were more brutal and still got whacked.

We're just paying for our pride and folly over there

Peace

Fire him. Anything less will only make Obama look weak(er), and lawdy knows that's the last thing a Dem needs.

McChrystal is an assh*le on this one- after close, careful consideration on how to proceed in Afghanistan, McChrystal got most everything he wanted. Comments like this either demonstrate that he is a two-faced bastard, &/or he has exceptionally poor judgment- Afghanistan needs someone with better judgment than that.

Of course, I'm sure there's a tell-all book & movie deal waiting for him in the wings...

Bush eventually came up with the best Israel/Palestine strategy...... just stay out of it.

You mean "stay out of it but still give billions of dollars and the implicit military protection of the world's biggest military." It's a very hands off approach that involves committing all the resources but just leaving all the decision making up to the Israelis.

The military network that broadcasts all over the world has been running adds for five years now reminding everyone that it is a court martial offense against the Uniform Code of Military Justice for any officer to criticize the President, the Congress, members of the Supreme Court or any other high ranking civilian official.

These ads were put into place because of criticisms of George Bush and his policies. They should apply to Obama's as well, and to generals the same as lieutenants.
