Got it, Justin and Paul. Makes sense now. Good example of good management of land/resources. I can dig that!

I'll bring 2-3 of those maps for the raffle. See you tomorrow.

The river below Mammoth Pool is very pretty. With boatable flows it is moderate class 5. There was about a two week spill this year, so debris may have been cleaned out. Now the flow is 32 cfs; enough to fill in pools between the rocky rapids but not enough to cover any rocks. Don't bring a raft. Float the pools then climb over the rocks is the way to do it. A super lightweight pack raft for getting across the pools and easy to carry or toss over the rocks would work well. I would expect a youngster could get through in a really long day or maybe a couple of days scrambling and swimming. With good flow it takes a few hours in a kayak.

The canyon just at the base of the dam is pretty impressive.

Hey Neebs! It was a good thing from what I saw. The family and I left yesterday morning after breakfast as everybody was heading out to climb from camp.

I had the pleasure of finally meeting a lot of people I've been eager to meet, face-to-face. And it never disappoints. As usual, everybody was cool!

And I had the pleasure of meeting Justin and Jeremy (and Josh and Mike A.). Very cool people, in a very cool setting. And I got to see old friends like Daphne and her friend!

Flip flop, Ksolem, Guyman, Nut-Again and I'll stop there. Too many cool climbers in one setting. It was good to hang with the gang.

My only regret was not spending more time there, but after a long week with my family and dog on Bass Lake, we were all vacationed-out and ready to head home.

Camping Note:
I really regret bringing my dog, Maggie. It was a bit of a selfish move on my part. I really wanted to meet everybody, but knew my old dog was going to be a potential problem. She growls, barks when other dogs are present.

We managed to keep isolated, yet still part of the overall area, which was a testament to the awesome-ness of the area.

But if you can really avoid it, try to leave dogs at home. Unless they're like Adieu, Justin 's dog. Adieu immediately was Maggie's focus. And then they met! Adieu and Maggie got a face-to-face.

That went way better than I expected. Adieu was like a friendly host-dog. But I'm constantly stressed in these situations, watching dogs, and what not. Better to leave the pups at home if you can. Unless they're super-friendly to people/other dogs like Adieu.
End Camping note.

Good times, my friends! I'm very grateful to the work everybody put in on this. I didn't take many pics, but I'm sure others did.

Thanks, Justin!

I saw some of your dream-catchers, Neebee, hanging at the raffle-table too!!!

The river below Mammoth Pool is called Tied For First if I remember right isn't Paul?
Myself along with Barry Kruse Eric Marten did the probable first raft descent of Tied For First in 1985. We made a cart for our SOTAR and lowered it down the dome just below the dam to get to the river. We had a flow of probably 1800-2000 and it felt pretty pushy. We spent two days making our way down and scouting the drops.
All of us worked for the same rafting company, ABLE Rafting, those were fun days.

I remember doing Cherry Creek and and a section of the Lower Stan that had a drop called Haunted House, that drop swallowed the raft whole.

What a wonderful weekend! Good people, fun climbing, clear starry skies, swimming holes, laughter and putting faces and avatars together. It's events like this that keep me on supertopo.

An especially big shout out to Justin and Mindy for being the amazing and generous people they are.

And big hugs to Paul (Urizen) and Mike (mikea) for leading Joanna and me to water! Best swimming holes ever.

And to Flip Flop for use of his new rope and for being an all-around good guy.

And Moose, and Frumy, and Ksolem, climberdude, and Steve, and all the rest of the good taco people, looking forward to the 3rd Annual :)

edit: Woah! Nutagain and his kids showed! So good to see you again! And Josh and Juniper! So great to witness the next generation being brought into nature and enjoying it.

I won huge!! What a great trip. Fantastic people all the way around.
I won a new rope! And as great as that is, it's down the list from the experiences with new friends.
MikeA and Ksolem hosted the Thursday Night Recon Campfire. These guys are friggin gods. Kris has just finished the new Needles Guide and that should put him at the top of all of our lists. Yaaahr! And Mike is the man with The best plan for staying cool and having fun in the swimming holes.
Nutagain showed up with the kids and Josh and June, and they were definitely the life of the party. Daphne and her partner Jumping Bean led the charge for bold leads and sweet water slides. Powder and a keg in the house!!
And I got to climb with Moosedrool. MooseJedi. Moose Baryshnikov.

The only disappointment was I couldn't raise any enthusiasm for Trump.

Where was Bluering when I needed him?

Hehehe

Moose

I was there, next to you for a while. I usually don't bring up politics on the road, UNLESS, someone else brings it up.

Kris and I had a great discussion on the current political upheavals in Britain and here in our own country. Great chat!

I know most people dislike talking politics, but I'm game next time you see me, Mossedrool!. You seem like a nice guy, I didn't realize who you were while I was there talking with you, Mike, Justin, Kris, and Flip Flip.

What's FF's real name? Moose, you're Andre, right?

I'm (was) Steve at the shin-dig.

Looks like a big fish story.

DMT,
MikeA was tour guide extraordinaire. Rock Creek on Friday and another couple of gems on Sunday.

Really cool info up-thread about the San Juaquin River. Priceless beta.

Thanks again y'all

Thanks for the great climbing event and glad everyone appreciated the keg. I would have been disappointed if I brought the keg, but very little funds were raised by the raffle. I love the dream catcher that I won, but could not hear who made it. It is hanging over my bed. It was great to see everyone again this year. I am looking forward to next year.

Thanks for bringing the keg. You are a prince among men.

Edit: For those who weren't there it was a keg of Lagunitas IPA. Classy.
